Rising Stars: Meet Tracie Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracie Thompson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a freelance artist that grew up in and I am currently living in the Jacksonville area. I graduated from Florida State University with a Visual Arts Degree. I have also been a flight attendant for a major commercial airline for 29 years.

I use my travels around the world to visually inspire my work. I specialize in painting with acrylics on canvas, furniture, and murals. I also paint with watercolor on paper. In the past, I have had my work published through Wild Apple Graphics and have had a reproduction of one of my tables sold through Saks Fifth Avenue Folio Magazine. And one of my paintings was in a shot which was on the cover of Southern Living magazine. I have painted a mural for David Garrard (the former quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars). Participated in multiple Jacksonville Symphony Showhouse projects with local Jacksonville designers.

Recently, I have been able to do some murals in commercial restaurant spaces. And I am keeping busy with private commission pieces. One of my works was just delivered to a client in Mumbai, India. I continue to enjoy working with individual clients by meeting with them discussing ideas and putting these ideas onto paper, canvas, furniture, or through mural work.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have started consistently working over the last 29years as an artist. My work in the airline business has allowed me to stay employed which has allowed me to pursue my art the way I’ve wanted to over the years. I enjoy taking the time to work one on one with my clients to ensure they are happy with the work I’ve done for them. I’ve never felt the pressure to rush through a project to make money above making my clients happy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in painting with acrylic on canvas, furniture, or murals. I also work with watercolor on paper. Most of my work is by word of mouth and I take pride in taking the time to develop my work with a client to put their ideas on paper or canvas. I did a few larger murals in the Jacksonville area and I hope to continue doing these larger-scale projects.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Jacksonville is such a diverse community and the opportunities for artists are expanding every day. Although Jacksonville is the largest square mileage city in the US it has a small-town feel that I’ve always enjoyed and thrived in. Despite all of the places of seen in the world through my travels, Jacksonville is my home and I always enjoy coming home.

Tracie has graced so many of her coworkers with her Christmas cards. I look forward to receiving her new design every holiday season – they are gifts from her heart.

I’ve known Tracie for decades and she has the utmost integrity in all that she does. Our airline family loves her!
