Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanda Jarest.
Hi Tanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Back in the early 90’s, I was a sales rep for luxury linen manufacturers in NYC. After moving to NC and discovering there were no luxury stores to call on, I decided to open my own. The first store opened in Southern Pines, NC in 1997. The Raleigh store opened 10 years later and the Ponte Vedra Beach store opened another 10 years later. I added the Duxiana brand to the assortment in 2010 and own that brand for both North and South Carolina.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been struggles along the way to include 911 and Covid. I feel very fortunate to have been able to ride the waves.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My stores sell luxury bed and bath linens, sleepwear, home and persona fragrances and Duxiana mattresses. The stores and website are know for the finest products and excellent customer service. The assortment is personally curated by me, nothing is offered in the stores that I do not personally use.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the luxury business, customers are quite different. A luxury customer is always a luxury customer, meaning that customer does not skimp on quality. That customer may skimp on quantity but not quality.
Much of the products are from Italy and France, and tariffs have been a challenge. Prices have gone up 10-20% and luxury customers do not mind paying them.
