Hi Suzi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Suzi Teitelman, founder of Swim Lesson Suzi LLC in Jacksonville Beach. Through my business, I teach children and adults how to become safer, stronger, and more confident in the water. My approach is gentle, supportive, and centered on trust, because learning to swim is not just about technique. It is also about comfort, confidence, and feeling safe.
My background has always been rooted in movement, teaching, and wellness. Over the years, those experiences naturally led me to swim instruction, where I found a meaningful way to combine skill-building with encouragement and connection. For me, swimming represents freedom, safety, and self-confidence, and I love helping people experience that for themselves.
Can you walk us through your journey and how you got to where you are today?
My path has been shaped by a lifelong love of movement and helping people feel more at home in their bodies. I have worked in wellness, teaching, and performance, and each part of that journey has influenced the way I teach today.
When I created Swim Lesson Suzi, I wanted it to feel personal. I wanted families to know they were working with someone who genuinely cared about their child’s progress and emotional comfort, not just the lesson itself. Over time, I’ve had the privilege of teaching many different kinds of students, from young beginners to adults who never had the chance to learn. Watching someone move from fear or hesitation into confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Living and working in Jacksonville Beach has also made this work especially meaningful. Water is such a natural part of life here, which makes learning to swim not only valuable, but essential.
Would you say your road has been a smooth one?
Not at all, but it has been meaningful.
Like many small business owners, I’ve had to build things step by step. There have been challenges, unexpected turns, and plenty of moments that required resilience and creativity. But those experiences also helped me grow, refine my work, and become even clearer about what I want to offer.
Challenges have a way of teaching you what matters most. For me, they strengthened my commitment to creating an experience that feels supportive, personal, and genuinely helpful to the families I serve.

Swim Lesson Suzi LLC is built on the belief that it is never too early or too late to learn to swim. I offer customized instruction designed to help each student feel safe, capable, and encouraged as they learn.
What makes my work different is that I never rush the process. I focus on building trust first, because when students feel secure, they learn more naturally and confidently. That is especially important for children, nervous beginners, and adults who may feel anxious around the water.
I care deeply about creating a positive experience for every family I work with. My goal is not just to teach swimming, but to help people feel stronger, calmer, and more confident in the water.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your work?
The most rewarding part is seeing confidence grow.
There is something incredibly powerful about watching a student begin with fear or uncertainty and gradually realize, “I can do this.” That transformation is not only physical, but emotional too. It is wonderful to witness, and it never stops being meaningful to me.
I also love knowing that what I teach has a lasting impact. Swimming is a life skill. It can bring safety, freedom, joy, and confidence, and being part of that journey is a true privilege.
Any advice for people hoping to build something of their own?
Stay true to what feels authentic to you.
It is easy to compare yourself to others, but the strongest businesses and the most meaningful work come from sincerity. Keep learning, keep refining, and keep showing up. Growth may not happen in a straight line, but consistency, care, and heart go a long way.
