Rising Stars: Meet Shon Much of Northside (River City)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shon Much.

Hi Shon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In high school, I filled my iPhone with more than 10,000 memories I captured. I decided during that school year I would be a photographer. I started going online looking at how to become a photographer. My mom was my biggest supporter and bought my first canon camera at age 16. At that moment, I took pictures of the school football team and friends around the city. I began using my sister as my model for a year to advance my skills. My mom continued to push me to start doing photoshoots, and I did. My sister was my first real client, and I took our pictures on social media. It reached over 500 views, and people started to reach out and book appointments.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely wasn’t smooth at all. I would say timing and time management would be the main struggle. Just a lot of personal things in my life affected everything I would do, from working two jobs to family problems to relationships. A lot of things played a part, and it was overwhelming. Also, I have to compete with a lot of good competition. I’m still a beginner and learn so much daily with running a business and photography.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer like no other. My photos capture the real. We’re having fun, all laughs from beginning to end, never a dull moment. Photography is all about moments and emotions that are caught and that should be remembered forever; rather, it is a happy, sad, or angry memory. I’m most proud of the friendships I’ve made while doing photography. I’ve met many exciting, supportive, and good people.

What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
It’s a lot to list, but some I have is to set goals, stay focused, be patient, and always be willing to learn. Sometimes I lose sight of what I need to do, which is part of being human. The one I follow the most is always having a clear mind and open ears when learning new things about success or beneficial ideas/comments to my career field. The advice can help you in so many ways, and so far, it has for me.
