Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Marshall.
Hi Sasha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
When I first embarked on this boutique journey, I wanted to solve a problem for women like myself. Up until recently, I have always been skinny. Once I reached adulthood and got more into dressing up, I struggled to find clothes in my size (00/XS). I wanted my clothing selections to always include those sizes. However, upon researching vendors, I found that majority needed to carry those sizes. Instead of getting discouraged, I remember telling myself, “I can just gain weight,” to continue. Despite my challenges in finding clothes to fit my liking, I have always carried myself confidently. That is how Haus of Aplomb was born. HOA’s mission is to promote, build, and maintain confidence amongst women through fashion. Aplomb means self-confidence or assurance, especially in demanding situations. Confidence will put you in places you’ve never imagined. It is a superpower and the key to reaching everything we’ve ever desired. I am here to use my brand and platforms to ensure women never enter a room with their heads down. Our curated styles are primarily chic and feminine, providing easy outfit choices that are versatile enough for everyday wear or special occasions such as brunch, date nights, vacations, concerts, etc. I am here to serve them with looks that introduce who they are before even opening their mouth. While this journey is one of faith for me, I also wanted to be an inspiration to other women. Tangible proof that they can do it, whatever that may be. People are often surprised when I tell them I’m an introvert, even more so when I mention that I have social anxiety. I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and some PTSD. When I tell women, “if I can do it, so can you,” I sincerely mean it and will continue to empower and motivate them to believe in themselves confidently.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
I have always prayed for every part of my boutique journey to be enjoyable, even the not-so-great moments because this is a faith walk and passion project for me. It certainly has not been smooth, and I would keep everything the same. A struggle I experienced was being forced to take a break because my physical and mental health was declining. While I do not feel like HOA has caused me any natural stress, other circumstances in my life have affected my ability to show up in my business. I also went through a phase where I wanted to have myself to myself, to be Sasha. Not entrepreneur-Sasha, career professional-Sasha, mom-Sasha, or there whenever someone needed me-Sasha.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Outside of owning Haus of Aplomb, I am fortunate enough to have a career in the Human Resources field. I love all things HR. I am currently an HR Generalist for a minority-owned Management Consulting Firm. Over the past 6 years, I have done a bit of it within HR ranging from hiring and onboarding, employee relations, payroll, and benefits/leave administration. I am known for advocating improved benefits beyond compensation to promote a healthy work-life balance for employees. I am most proud of the growth I have mastered within the field. My passion and dedication to honor Christ by being a service to others are what set me apart from others. I strive to be a person that makes a difference in the lives of others.
What does success mean to you?
I wholeheartedly believe that success is not a destination but a journey. The process is equally important, if not more than the outcome. It is important to me that I grow as an entrepreneur in areas beyond revenue. Once I have fully transitioned from “owner” to CEO and created job opportunities in my community that sustain one’s well-being and family, I’d say that’s pretty darn successful.
