Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Day.
Hi Rebecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I began my career as a professional musician in 2012. During my first few years as an independent singer, songwriter, and performer, I performed an array of shows and released my debut EP, ‘Now Here.’ In 2014, I brought my sister on board and we formed The Crazy Daysies. We created a unique swampy/Americana sound by combining her viola and harmonies with my guitar and vocals.
We released an EP, “Where the Dirt Runs Out of Road,’ went on 2 regional tours, and played as many shows as we could to fund our creative endeavors. Today, I play shows featuring a variety of setups from solo to duo and trio. I love keeping my solo roots alive because that’s how it all started. I also enjoy performing with my bandmates for larger events like festivals.
Due to artistic and business growth, I put everything under the umbrella, Rebecca Day and The Crazy Daysies. Since 2012, we’ve released 2 EPs, a full-length album, several singles and have played over 1,000 shows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I often joke that music chooses you, you don’t choose it because no sane person would. Taking the independent route has definitely made things interesting. In order to be a successful artist, you have to operate as an entrepreneur. As an independent musician, I play the role of singer, songwriter, performer, booker, marketer, designer, accountant, and more.
But it is worth it because we get to keep our artistic integrity and freedom. We own ourselves and that is priceless. But music definitely isn’t for the faint of heart or head.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As creatives, Jen (my songwriting sister and 1/2 of The Crazy Daysies) and I love cultivating relationships with our supporters. As songwriters, we love releasing music that fosters strength and happiness within our Daysie Fam (that’s the title we’ve given to our supporters).
We’ve worked hard over the years to gain recognition as serious songwriters, not just performers or entertainers. Our music has been featured on popular Spotify playlists such as American Top 40 Charts. Sonorous Music, a Universal Music Group partner, picked up a single of ours for a compilation release deal.
We’ve performed originals on Jacksonville’s morning show First Coast Living, and we’ve had the honor of sharing our music with audiences at regional events such as Porch Fest, Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Fest, Jekyll Island Shrimp and Grits Fest, and the Blue Crab Festival.
We’ve also performed all-original sets in the VIP Lounge of the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL for Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line tour dates.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Jen and I are very different which is why our group works so well together. I was the artistic kid in the background reading books and playing guitar and Jen was a social butterfly.
Though we grew up with polar opposite personalities our southern roots bind us together. Our principles of faith and family keep us super close. And the music we grew up listening to does as well.
Our parents played us all kinds of different music growing up from James Brown to The Beatles. We listened to tons of country music, Motown, and our mom’s favorite, Janis Joplin.
