Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Sapp.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved vintage items and grown up around it my whole life. I started selling vintage in an antique mall as a side hustle while working fulltime and then covid came and I took to selling on Instagram and gained a large following. I had always wanted my own shop- I was a VP for a large company that was taking a turn in Dec of 2023 I told my fiance I was going to be out of a job by end of first quarter, I began looking for jobs-then one day I was driving to St Augustine and saw a sign for a space that I made a comment about being a perfect location for a vintage shop if it ever came out. I saw this as a sign to take on the challenge of opening my own vintage shop. It wasn’t easy and was way more work than I thought it would be and definitely cost way more and a huge adjustment in income but I wouldn’t change doing it. I work harder and longer than I have in all my life but when it is something that brings you joy it doesn’t feel that way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from a smooth road- have burned through savings, retirement and incurred more debt than I have ever had in my life. Unfortunately it is very challenging trying to get any business loans, or help when you are a new business. To me that is the time you need it most and they want you to be in business for years. We’ve had to bridge gaps with our personal money and had to tighten our belts a lot.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have always been a loyal employee staying with the companies I have worked for long term and have always moved up quickly. I was in the financial services and rent to own. I was known for always being a top performer and people person.
I am most proud of always driving to be the best at whatever I am doing.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love all the old nostalgic parts, and love dealing with mom and pops, small business shops over big box. The thing I like least would be the traffic
