Today we’d like to introduce you to Lali Salcedo.
Hi Lali, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Lali from @Lalitries, a Venezuelan mixed media artist based in Jacksonville, FL. All of my art is handmade: prints, stationery, books, original art, and wearable art. I’m currently preparing my debut collection, centered on identity and culture, set to premiere on November 8, 2026 (details will be posted on my social media)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an immigrant meant losing and having to rebuild a sense of identity. Along the way, I also went through failed businesses and lost time and money. It’s been a whole process, alchemizing those emotions and growing in all senses. Every time I tried to step away from art to focus on something else, I kept coming back to realizing it’s what I truly want to do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The way I work follows my own artistic worldview: carving my own path, working in seasons, protecting my private life, and building a legacy.
Which brings me to my books. My first coloring book, Venezuela a Color, was designed to celebrate Venezuelan culture and for children like my son and my niece, second-generation immigrants growing up between two worlds. It’s bilingual and features national symbols, traditional food, music, and animals, so kids can color their heritage and learn about their roots.
My second coloring book, Semillitas de Calma, is free to download. It was created after the double earthquakes that hit my country in June of this year. I designed it to help children process loss, and it was reviewed by three psychologists located in Venezuela, Argentina, and Colombia. I’m currently sending funds to print and distribute it to children in shelters in Venezuela. Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the art industry is heading towards less mass production, more local and authentic experiences.
My long-term vision is to establish a sustainable working rhythm and expand into local art installation services. I believe in highlighting handmade work, because it’s something that simply can’t be duplicated.
