Today we’d like to introduce you to Jrock Oxford
Hi Jrock, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started tattooing when I was 15 years old and had a dream of opening a tattoo shop in a big city. I opened my first tattoo shop in 2019 and was able to upgrade to my current building in 2022. We are located in a historical landmark that is over 100 years old. My tattoo shop brings in some of the best artists in the world, hosts art events, works with special needs community, and brings up local musicians and artists in Jacksonville. In 2024 I was personally invited to showcase my tattoos at the All Stars Tattoo Convention in Miami, FL. I continue to practice my craft to bring Jacksonville some of the best tattoos in the area.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Everything is self-funded with no help from investors. In 2019, we were only open for a few months before COVID hit and everything shut down. The SBA would not help since we had not been open for a year yet. We had another project in the works after the 3 year mark, and we lost thousands of dollars in a failed deal. I work every day every hour to make sure this business succeeds.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love creating custom tattoos for clients. Everyone has a story. I love to bring that story to life in form of tattoos. Many people get tattoos for lost loved one or for therapy, and I feel blessed to give them an amazing experience. I love tattooing cartoons, full color, and black and grey realism. I specialize in coverups and have covered up some of the craziest tattoos. I am most proud of attending and networking at the All Stars Tattoo Convention that had the best tattoo artists in the world attending.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My whole life I have taken risks because I believe in myself. I know that no matter what, I can make money and get myself to where I need to be. You have to believe in yourself in order to achieve your goals. You can’t second guess yourself or you will fail.
