Rising Stars: Meet John And Janet Perreault of Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to John And Janet Perreault

Hi John and Janet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My sister has had a successful cotton candy business in WI for 7 years now, but I’ve been hesitant due to the climate in FL. When we started researching the cottage food laws, we learned that prepackaged goods was our best option for a quality product and it also allows for us to book private live spinning parties, so I asked for her guidance to get started. John & I both have every intention of continuing to work our full time jobs, while putting smiles on people’s faces on the weekends with our cotton candy and freeze dried candies that we offer. I started booking our events by reaching out to the local markets in the area as well as event companies that take us a bit further out of town. We are still in the infancy stage of a business, but we have confidence that it will continue to grow and succeed.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, it has been a smooth journey. Our most challenging part was the initial research process into the health regulations and laws. Everything was done online or in Tallahassee rather than a local office we could go into and speak with someone to ensure we were doing it correctly.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Janet- after raising my 3 children I’ve landed in the logistics/transportation industry. I’ve worked my way from the ground floor and am currently a department head. My team is known for our top-notch customer service within the industry and one of my team members is also my daughter.

John-after retiring from 20 years of Navy service in 2008, I have done a multitude of jobs. From a marine engineer, truck driver, recycling operations manager, and corporate office for a USPS contractor. Currently I’m operating heavy equipment for a pool construction company.

What are your plans for the future?
Ultimately, we would like to get the business to a point where we can hire a team to work the markets, and we enjoy doing the live spin parties. We hope to travel to further reaching events in our great state while spending time in our camper.
