Rising Stars: Meet Jason Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Garcia.

Hi Jason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After watching various YouTube videos of people diving and snorkeling and finding lost phones, sunglasses, trash, and other things, my 10 years old daughter, Lauren and I decided to try it.

We spent the summer of 2020 visiting various Florida Springs. For Father’s Day, that same summer the kids bought me a GoPro and we started documenting our adventures and sharing them on YouTube. As summer turned to fall, like many of the river treasure hunters we admired, we transitioned into Magnet Fishing.

In its simplest form, magnet fishing is where you throw a strong magnet tied to a rope into any body of water and slowly pull/reel it in. Anything ferrous/Magnetic sticks to the magnet and you are able to clean up the river and find some interesting things. What we thought would be boring changed when on our first outing we pulled up a revolver.

Now nearly 2 years later, we are responsible for pulling thousands of pounds of junk out of the water making our local waterways cleaner, and also found over 30 guns, stolen motorcycles, safes, bicycles, and a bunch more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our number one goal had always been to have fun and having that as our driving force has kept expectations reasonable.

When we started we wanted to share our adventures with anyone who was interested. While we had no control over what we would find, we could control the work we put into it. When we started to take it more seriously as a YouTube Channel we grew from 100 subscribers, with a goal of reaching 500 by year’s end in 2021 to over 2500 subscribers during that year.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Ironically I work as an MRI Technologist and run a powerful magnet to image people to help diagnose their health issues.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have found it is best to find people on all levels of success both inside and outside your niche. Sometimes you will learn more from those with less experience success than you. I believe it is important to also help those who need it. I try to be the person I needed when I started out for someone else.
