Rising Stars: Meet Franky Carbonell of Branford, Fl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Franky Carbonell.

Hi Franky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I was about 15 doing handyman work with my father. It sucked lol. One day he wanted to install a new tiled floor in our home. Everything started off fine, till we reached the back corner of the house. We went from a quarter inch grout joints to about an inch grout joints. It was horrible. His response was “don’t worry about it, we will put a couch over it.” Lol. I was hooked with the transformation our home. At that point, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. A good tile installation changes the home and its appearance.
I became a helper for about 5 years learning all that I can. Thereafter, I started getting my own work. I loved the look on my clients faces when they see their vision come to life. As time went on, I started to love more backsplashes, and bathrooms. I believe the kitchen is the heart beat of the home. An awesome backsplash is a major talking point in the area. I love how it transforms the kitchen into something new. Bathroom are exactly the same. So yes, it’s super rewarding to see the reaction of my clients faces with a tile transformation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road by a long shot. As a father and a husband, it is our job to provide for our families, a.k.a. our homes. Running a small business takes a lot of time and attention. You basically become your own bookkeeper, advertiser, installer, etc. Two areas were the hardest for me. One, never knowing when the next job is calling and financially being ready for that. Two, learning to shut your mind off from work and focus on family.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do tile installation. Mostly bathrooms and backsplash. I find tile installation to be one of the hardest trades out there. 90% of the work is mostly custom on my end. I tend to shy away from normal/standard installations.
I believe Tile installers are artist and have to consistently be creative.

My motto is “to bring your vision to life.”
Before any transformation happens, I sit with my clients months in advance, and I put their vision on paper. Or help them develop a vision. And for them to see it come to life, I would have to say that’s what I’m known for. Bringing to life exactly what they wanted.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
At the end of the day, I would have to say that my biggest supporters are my family, especially my wife. It’s not been an easy journey for them, but they never gave up on me.
