Rising Stars: Meet Emily Alwood of Jacksonvile, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Alwood.

Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m the owner and lead photographer behind EmmiClaire Photography, and I specialize in weddings, families, proposals, and brand photography across Jacksonville, Florida and Richmond, Virginia.

My business started in Richmond, but as my family grew and life shifted, we relocated to Jacksonville, FL and I’ve been able to grow in both markets, which has been such a gift.

What started as a creative outlet has really evolved into something much more intentional. I care deeply about creating an experience where people feel confident, guided, and genuinely themselves in front of the camera.

At the end of the day, I’m not just documenting moments, I’m creating space for people to feel confident, present, and truly themselves in them.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most small business owners, I’ve had to navigate a lot of growth while also going through major life transitions like moving states, becoming a mom, and learning how to scale in a sustainable way.

There have been seasons of trial and error, especially in the early days, figuring out pricing, workflows, and how to truly serve clients well. And even now, growth comes with its own challenges like learning when to say no, protecting my time, and continuing to refine the experience I offer.

But I think those challenges have shaped my business into what it is today which is more intentional, more refined, and built for the long term.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner and lead photographer behind EmmiClaire Photography, where I specialize in weddings, families, and brand photography across Jacksonville, Florida and Richmond, Virginia. My work is rooted in creating images that feel timeless, vibrant, and true to my clients—not overly posed, but still elevated and intentional.

I’m especially known for the experience I provide. One of the biggest compliments I get is that the process felt easy, natural, and even fun. I guide my clients in a way that brings out genuine connection while still ensuring everything looks polished and cohesive.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me and the relationships that come from that. Many of my wedding clients come back for maternity and family sessions, and it’s incredibly meaningful to be a part of so many milestones in their lives.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just focus on the final images I focus on the entire experience. From styling guidance to timeline support to how I show up on a wedding day, everything is designed to feel seamless, calm, and thoughtfully executed. I’ve built a process that allows my clients to feel confident and present, while I handle the details behind the scenes.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success, to me, is feeling aligned in both my work and my life.

It’s knowing I’m serving my clients well, creating work I love, and still being present for my family.

The balance of those things without feeling constantly overwhelmed is what I really value.
