Hi Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I love to travel but have remained closer to home with young kiddos since the pandemic. It started as a dream to figure out how to be around more for our children. We both work full-time but are interested in cutting back some eventually so we can more fully enjoy these moments! We decided to go into real estate and short-term rentals as something we could enjoy. We wanted to have places that our guests and we could enjoy regularly. We created Joyful-Stays as an escape to take a break from the stress of everyday life and relax and enjoy the charm! We are approaching our 1st anniversary and hope to continue growing and improving our guest experiences.
Would it have been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been an interesting road. I would not call it smooth! It took us quite a while and many offers to get the properties we have now. We rehabbed an entire kitchen and 2 bathrooms in one house and learned a lot about what you can and can’t do yourself! Also, since we started this past year, we didn’t know what to expect, but fortunately, things are good, and the houses are renting and paying for their mortgages!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do?
In this business, I am more of an artist; my husband is an entrepreneur and handles the business aspects. I love setting up the houses, getting everything ready for the guests, and picking the linens, the decorations, and the furniture. We named our business Joyful-Stays because we want people to have the opportunity to find joy, relax, unwind, and de-stress. We have found that in our lives, we need to take time for ourselves to give the most to others, and we hope our house allows you to do that as well! Quality is our emphasis. We want our guests to create lasting memories and thoroughly enjoy themselves! We do everything possible to ensure our guests have a stay full of relaxation, fantastic memories, and joy! We are most proud of how far we have come in a year, and we also aim to donate a percentage of our profits to charity starting in 2023.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Our daughter’s name is Joy, and that is where we got the inspiration for our brand name, Joyful-Stays! Part of our mission is to give back, and we support several charities in local communities. One of those ways is by protecting sea turtles through the local aquarium, so next time you visit, be on the lookout for our adopted sea turtle nests!
