Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Nguyen.
Hi Danny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Danny Nguyen and I’m the founder of Anaba.
I come from a background in digital media and design, and I’ve always been drawn to building things that bring people together. For a long time that showed up through creative work — design, music, and community events.
Anaba is where all of those interests came together. It started as a simple idea: creating a small matcha experience that feels thoughtful, welcoming, and a little different from what people usually expect from coffee culture.
What began as a small pop-up has slowly grown into something much more meaningful — a space where people gather, talk, and share moments around a cup of matcha.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges has been building something new from the ground up while learning as we go.
Running pop-ups means handling everything — sourcing ingredients, designing the experience, building equipment, coordinating with partners, and serving guests all at the same time.
There have definitely been moments where things felt overwhelming, but those moments have also been the most rewarding. Every event teaches us something new about how we can improve the experience and take better care of the people who come visit us.
Seeing the community respond to what we’re building makes all of that effort worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a creative founder behind Anaba, a pop-up matcha concept centered around thoughtful drinks and meaningful gatherings.
My background is in digital media and design, and that perspective shapes how I approach everything we do. For me, Anaba isn’t just about serving matcha — it’s about designing an entire experience. From the drinks themselves to the visual identity, music playing at the cart, and the way people gather around it, every detail is intentional.
We focus on high-quality Japanese matcha and simple ingredients, but what really matters to me is the feeling around it. I’m interested in creating moments where people slow down, talk with each other, and feel welcomed into something that feels calm and genuine.
One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing a community naturally form around the pop-ups. Many of the people who visit us come back again and bring friends with them, and those conversations around the cart have become one of the most rewarding parts of building Anaba.
What sets my work apart is the way I blend design, hospitality, and community. Anaba sits somewhere between a café, a creative project, and a gathering space. Rather than trying to grow quickly, I’m focused on building something intentional that people discover organically and feel connected to.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. When I first started Anaba, I didn’t know exactly where it would lead. I just knew I wanted to create something meaningful and see where it could go.
Starting small can actually be a strength. The pop-up format allowed me to experiment, learn quickly, and refine the experience with every event. Each gathering teaches us something new about what people enjoy and how we can improve.
I also think it’s important to surround yourself with people who believe in what you’re building. Community has played a huge role in Anaba’s journey, whether it’s friends helping out, collaborators opening their spaces to us, or guests who continue to show up and support what we’re doing.
If there’s anything I wish I knew earlier, it’s that progress happens one small step at a time. It’s easy to compare yourself to others who seem further ahead, but building something meaningful takes patience. Focus on doing things thoughtfully and the rest will grow naturally from there.
