Hi Bina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been anything but traditional. I’m a U.S. Air Force veteran, entrepreneur, author, publisher, web and graphic designer, and resilience coach, but none of those titles came easily. Every chapter of my life has required me to reinvent myself.
After my military service, I faced a series of personal and health challenges that completely changed the direction of my life. Living with chronic illnesses, surviving a stroke, and navigating brain surgery forced me to slow down and reevaluate what success really meant. Instead of allowing those experiences to define me, I decided to let them refine me.
What started as freelance graphic and web design eventually grew into Bina Banks LLC, where I help businesses and organizations build brands that tell meaningful stories. That creative work expanded into publishing through pRose &nd Ink Publishing, where I help authors bring their books to life, and into coaching through the BAye Coaching Alliance, where I support women living with chronic illness as they rebuild confidence and resilience.
Along the way, I’ve also become deeply involved in advocacy for women veterans, community service, and creating platforms that amplify Black voices and stories. Whether I’m designing a website, publishing a book, coaching a client, or speaking about healing and resilience, my mission is the same: to help people see possibility where they once saw obstacles.
Looking back, I realize my career has never been about choosing one path. It’s been about connecting creativity, service, and purpose. Every business I’ve built and every project I’ve launched has grown from the belief that our greatest challenges can become the foundation for our greatest impact. I’m still building, still learning, and still committed to leaving every person, project, and community a little better than I found it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. My journey has included more obstacles than I ever imagined, both personally and professionally.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that building a business is rarely a straight line. There have been financial challenges, moments of self-doubt, and the constant balancing act of wearing multiple hats. Like many business owners, I’ve had to learn everything from marketing and operations to leadership, often through trial and error.
On a personal level, I’ve faced some significant health challenges, including living with chronic illnesses, surviving a stroke, and undergoing brain surgery. Those experiences changed the way I work, the pace at which I live, and how I define success. There were seasons when simply making it through the day felt like an accomplishment.
I’ve also experienced profound personal loss, including the passing of loved ones who were incredibly important to me. Grief has a way of reshaping your perspective, and I’ve had to learn how to continue building a life and a business while carrying that weight.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that resilience isn’t about pretending everything is okay. It’s about adapting, finding purpose in the difficult moments, and continuing to move forward even when the path isn’t clear. Those experiences have made me a more compassionate leader, a better coach, and a more intentional entrepreneur.
Today, I don’t see my struggles as detours. They became the foundation for the work I do. They gave me the empathy to serve others authentically and the determination to keep creating opportunities, not only for myself but for the communities I’m passionate about serving.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of several mission-driven businesses, including Bina Banks LLC, a branding and digital marketing agency; pRose &nd Ink Publishing; and the BAye Coaching Alliance. Although each serves a different audience, they all share the same purpose: helping people bring their vision to life and make a meaningful impact.
Through Bina Banks LLC, I specialize in branding, web design, graphic design, and digital marketing for entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and organizations that want more than just a beautiful logo or website; they want a brand that tells their story. Through pRose &nd Ink Publishing, I help aspiring authors transform their manuscripts into professionally published books. As a confidence and resilience coach, I work primarily with women living with chronic illness, helping them rediscover themselves beyond their diagnosis and build lives filled with purpose.
I’m also an author, speaker, and advocate, with a passion for amplifying Black voices, supporting women veterans, and creating spaces where healing, creativity, and entrepreneurship intersect.
What I’m most proud of isn’t any single business or accomplishment. It’s the fact that I’ve been able to build purpose-driven platforms from some of the hardest experiences of my life. Every business I own exists because I saw a need and decided to become part of the solution.
I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t separate creativity from compassion. I understand what it’s like to rebuild after setbacks, and I bring that perspective into everything I create. Whether I’m designing a brand, publishing a book, coaching a client, or developing a community initiative, I approach every project with the same goal: creating work that is authentic, impactful, and built to leave a lasting legacy.
At the end of the day, I don’t just build brands; I help people believe in the value of their own stories.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Jacksonville is its potential. It’s a city that’s still growing and evolving, which creates opportunities for entrepreneurs, creatives, nonprofits, and community leaders to make a real impact. I also appreciate the diversity of the city, from its beaches and parks to its rich cultural history and vibrant small business community. Jacksonville has given me the space to build multiple businesses, connect with incredible people, and serve causes that matter to me.
If I could change one thing, it would be creating more opportunities for collaboration and visibility among local entrepreneurs, especially women-owned and minority-owned businesses. Jacksonville has an incredible amount of talent, but I think we could do an even better job of connecting people, celebrating local success stories, and making resources more accessible to those who are building something meaningful.
Overall, I’m optimistic about Jacksonville’s future. I believe it’s a city with tremendous potential, and I’m grateful to be a small part of its continued growth and evolution.
