Today we’d like to introduce you to Barb And Ron MacGillivary.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We’re Ron and Barb MacGillivary, the husband and wife team who own Stogies Cigar Events based out of St. Johns, FL.
Our journey really started with Stogies Cigar Shop in St. Augustine, FL, which we owned and operated for several years.
While running the shop, we discovered people not only loved cigars, but also the experience of seeing cigars rolled right in front of them. As trained cigar rollers, we realized we could take that experience beyond the shop and bring it directly to special events.
With that in mind, we created Stogies Cigar Events and shifted our focus exclusively to live rolling full time, selling the shop in 2024.
We love interacting with guests, teaching the rolling process and providing something unique and memorable for their special events.
Today we roll cigars for weddings, corporate events, golf tournaments, private parties, cigar shops, and more. It’s been an amazing transition and we love being a part of people’s celebrations in such a personal and meaningful way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been such a rewarding journey, and through word of mouth we have been able to steadily grow our business. We’ve rolled for so many beautiful weddings, retirements parties, and other special events. We even rolled for the Jacksonville Jaguars Christmas party. With that said, our biggest struggle we faced was navigating our business during the Covid pandemic. It was a very difficult period with everything at a complete standstill. Luckily, things grew again quickly once that ended, and it’s been such a wonderful experience continuing to make new connections with clients and guests.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
First and foremost, we both have an extensive knowledge of cigars and the rolling techniques that go into creating a quality cigar. We were trained by a master Cuban cigar roller, which gave us a strong foundation and allows us to deliver a premium and authentic rolling experience.
What really sets us apart is how hands-on we are from start to finish. We personally roll at every event using traditional methods and high-quality tobacco, ensuring every cigar meets our standards. We also pay close attention to the details, whether it’s the presentation, the guest interaction, or creating personalized cigar labels to match each event. We love educating the guests and teaching the process to anyone interested in learning how to roll!
