Today we’d like to introduce you to Asma Aftimous.
Hi Asma, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from the Syrian Arab Republic with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and began my career as an independent pharmacy owner, serving rural communities for more than five years. During that time, I focused on patient education, medication counseling, and improving access to care for underserved populations.
After getting married, I moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to build a better future with my husband and his family. To continue my profession in the United States, I completed the required examinations, courses, and training to obtain my Florida Pharmacist License. During this period, I also welcomed my two daughters and balanced motherhood with my professional growth.
I gained extensive experience working for major pharmacy chains, including Eckerd, Winn-Dixie, and CVS, where I strengthened my clinical skills, patient communication, and operational expertise.
In 2025, after more than 20 years of serving the Jacksonville community, my long‑held dream finally came true: I established A Plus Pharmacy. My mission is to provide personalized care, meaningful patient education, and the level of attention every patient .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
NO, my Road was not smooth at all.
You were dealing with financial pressure, the uncertainty of waiting for school and testing to finish, and then the physical and emotional weight of a high‑risk pregnancy. Studying for the pharmacy boards while on bed rest was a huge challenge, and then i went to the testing center knowing I could go into labor at any moment — and even warning the staff to be ready to call 911 —
And then with my second daughter, in a different but equally demanding way. i had to leave her knowing she still needed me so much, pumping milk because she refused formula,
i had to work long hours, and still carrying the responsibility of building my career and supporting my family… that’
my journey wasn’t easy, at all
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
