Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Altman.
Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Anthony; I am a disabled motorsports/automotive photographer based around Jacksonville, Florida. I got into photography/videography in 2015 when I started volunteering in Glastonbury, CT, after school. They ran a community-based TV show called Pass it On, using Glastonbury High School’s studio to record and edit episodes to be aired weekly. I joined the program and got involved in its technical aspects, such as operating cameras, setting up scenes, and acting as the director. I loved every second of it, and combined with ready access to point-and-shoot cameras and a camcorder at home, I fell in love with it. We moved to Florida in 2017 St Johns; now, while I didn’t participate in any photography-based clubs there, I still kept shooting, using my phone. This trend continued for years, just pictures of random subjects, mostly cityscape/landscape when I had free time. About 8 months ago, I got my first professional camera, an old but reliable Nikon D3300. My friends provided me with some subjects, such as cars, as they were now deeply invested in the car community, and I instantly found my new favorite subject. There is so much you can do with them, and the photos one can get, especially when you find the perfect spot, are amazing. I started to get relatively popular once I joined Caffine and Octane’s Photography team, where I met some amazing people who helped me learn the ropes of operating this new camera.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t. At first, I never thought this would take off and that I was wasting my time and money. Photography was relatively stressful to get into, and on top of my father’s declining health, disabilities, etc., it wasn’t easy to manage the initial stress, especially when I went on my first paid photoshoot.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a motorsports and automotive photographer based out of Northeast Florida. I mainly help cover events, such as car shows and larger meets. I am a Caffine and Octane’s Photography team member and have gone down to the Daytona Speedway to take pictures of some incredible cars on track. I am known for my creative approach to automotive photography. Every car is a work of art that someone has put time and money into. I try to find that uniqueness that sets each vehicle apart and capture it.
How do you define success?
A happy client is my definition of success. I’m happy if I deliver images that make them go ‘Wow.’
