Rising Stars: Meet Andrew Durham of North Central Florida, Gainesville/Jacksonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Durham.

Hi Andrew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey, my name is Andrew Durham. I was born in Gainesville Florida. My mom was a single parent trying to provide for three kids. I got intrigued with cooking at a young age being at my mom had to work so much I had to cook the food for me and my siblings. My mom own restaurants when I was a kid so I had fun memories of working in the restaurants. I became a dishwasher straight out of high school trying to find where I belong. Eventually, I work my way up the ladder to kitchen manager and then operational manager I’ve been a chef and consultant for some Gainesville Staples, like the Keys restaurant bar and Grill, Oak restaurant, Turkey Creek golf course, and more. I started eating a more vegan and vegetarian diet when I became lactose intolerant as an adult as well as developed a condition called IBS. I learned that when I ate this way, I didn’t have as many bad side effects. Actually I felt good. When I open my vegan food truck there are no vegan options. Some nice me and my wife would just ride around and we just wanted a burger and fries but nobody sold vegan burger fries so that’s what I stepped in and said I’m gonna open up a Vegan joint. Birth of Vegan gator. I never knew it would become so successful and so liked by people I just wanted to give people a good burger and fries.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth. People have been very supportive obviously, some of the struggles that play goes all or the current economy the price of good skyrocketing, staffing issues. We’ve been pretty blessed at Vegan gator I think it’s a testament to our love for food and people.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a musician on the side. I play the piano, I draw, I rap, I sing, I’m proud of myself being fearless. I’m willing to try anything once what sets me apart from everyone else is that I’m fearless if I wanna do something, I do it. If I set a goal, I’ll see it through.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
honestly right now. It’s kinda hard to say with the current state about country of the world. Veganism is going anywhere. I would love for the environment the animals, the people. Serving the community. That’s where I see next 5 to 10 years going.
