Meet Viktoria Koval of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viktoria Koval.

Hi Viktoria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up in Poland, I never believed that art could be more than a dream. It wasn’t until I moved to the United States that I began to see new possibilities. Over the past ten years in St. Augustine, I found myself surrounded by creativity, beauty, and inspiration. Then, in a quiet moment while painting mandalas on flower pots, I discovered something profound: art was not just a passion—it was my calling.

My creative process is guided by intuition and inspired by the heart. Rather than following a predetermined plan, I allow each mandala to emerge organically, selecting colors based on the emotions and energy they evoke. Deeply influenced by nature and the interconnectedness of all living things, I view mandalas as more than decorative art—they are expressions of harmony, balance, unity and consciousness.

I believe that the thoughtful arrangement of colors, patterns, and symmetry can create a sense of calm, elevate mood, encourage inner balance, and promote overall well-being. The practice of creating mandalas has brought a greater sense of peace, mindfulness, and self-awareness into my own life, and I strive to infuse that same positive energy into every piece I create. Each mandala is crafted with intention, serving as both a work of art and an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the beauty and harmony that surrounds us.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an artist working today, one of the new challenges is competing with AI-generated art. AI can produce countless designs instantly and at a fraction of the cost, while each of my pieces requires hours of focus, patience, and craftsmanship. The value of my work reflects not only the finished artwork, but also the time, skill, experience, and creative energy invested in every detail.

Although AI can create an image with the click of a button, I believe handmade art offers something technology cannot reproduce—the presence of the artist. Every piece I create is painted by hand and infused with intention, emotion, and personal expression. It carries a human connection, a story, and a unique energy that makes it truly one of a kind.
For me, the true value of art is not simply in the image itself, but in the spirit, dedication, and authenticity behind its creation.
Just recently I started working on my website, I am adding new products daily to reach the audience beyond local markets and galleries.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a mandala artist based in St. Augustine, Florida, and have been creating art full-time for the past five years. Working primarily with acrylics, I transform a wide variety of surfaces—including wood, canvas, ceramics, glass, jewelry, magnets, and sculptures—into unique expressions of mandala art. I also incorporate resin into many of my pieces, adding depth, dimension, and a vibrant, luminous quality that brings the artwork to life.
Every mandala I create is painted entirely freehand with dotting tools (I don’t use paint brushes), guided by intention, intuition, and the unique energy of each piece. I do not use stencils or templates; every design develops organically and is truly one of a kind. Through intricate patterns, harmonious colors, and mindful craftsmanship, my work reflects a celebration of creativity, balance, and the interconnected beauty of life.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I don’t really have a single mentor. Instead, I find inspiration in remarkable women from history, such as Nawal El Saadawi. I admire her courage to challenge ideas and systems that she believed limited freedom and human dignity. Her life reminds me of the importance of thinking independently, choosing kindness over control, and helping create a better world for future generations. Rather than following one mentor, I draw inspiration from women like her who had the strength to stand up for what they believed in and inspire positive change.
