Meet stephanie Wright of Riverside

Today we’d like to introduce you to stephanie Wright.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My journey to being a hairstylist started long before I picked up a pair of shears. As a child, My Auntie Jessie asked me, ‘What do you want to do when you grow?’ I asked, so surely I wanted to be a hairstylist. As soon as I finished high school in 2010, I enrolled in the average institute. There I was introduced to the world of hair. I instantly became obsessed with it. I spent my year there learning as much as I could. Once I got my license, I started working in a salon the next day. The first 5 years I spent doing hair at different salons, still taking as many classes as possible, working on my techniques. In 2016, I was offered a Job at Paul Mitchell school. I was so excited to be able to teach a new generation of hairstylists all the things I have learned on my journey. There I was able to work with students, do a lot of classes, and become certified in many subjects. Around 2019, I was missing the salon life. At the time, I started my instagram ‘stephstyleswright’. I got a job at a salon and started building my clientele again. After 2 years, I wanted to go out on my own, and it’s been great ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! It’s been a rollercoaster! I’ve seen so many people enter and leave this industry. Hair isn’t for the weak. Salons can be toxic and also have competition. After 11 years, I tried to have an excellent work-to-life balance and self-care to avoid burnout.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in color. I’ve spent years learning and developing my color techniques; I now do blonding, balayage, lived-in color, vivid color, and corrections.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t take anything personally! You aren’t for everyone. Once I learned that I could move forward with a whole new outlook.
