Meet Stacey Kohl of Chic Physique Personal Training Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Kohl.

Hi Stacey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
When I was in my 30’s, I was diagnosed with diabetes. I was 100 pounds overweight and was not very gifted athletically. If I were a yoyo, I would lose 25 lbs. and gain 40. My arthritis was terrible, and I was extremely unhealthy. At the age of 41, I surprisingly found out I was pregnant 11 years after my last child, and at 42, I gave birth and decided I needed to be around to see her grow up and get a handle on my health. After much discussion with my husband, I decided to have a gastric sleeve, and we paid out of pocket, so I was more determined than ever not to waste a dime of that money. I have always exercised but never put a lot of effort into it. I loved going to boot camp but had a hard time with plyometrics due to back problems. I discovered weight lifting, resistance, and strength training, and that is when I noticed I was not only muscular but smaller. I always seemed to stay at a size 12, but with strength training got down to a size 6. I still struggle with my weight, primarily through menopause. I started helping friends work out, and they kept suggesting that I get certified to train and help other people, but I am an artist and Interior Designer by trade, so it took a lot of convincing and studying. For me, weight has been a lifelong struggle, and I still work hard every day. My goal is to help women struggling with weight and body image, whether it’s a new or lifelong struggle.

I founded Chic Physique Personal Training Studio; the concept came to me after realizing that some clients want more privacy and do not wish to join a gym. I am a certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). I am also a certified Woman’s Fitness Specialist and study Corrective Exercise. My focus is on women over 40, but I train all ages. My goal is to correct muscle imbalances in people returning from injuries., surgeries, and everyday repetitive movements. I seem to have developed a reputation after Physical Therapy rehab.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started training a few clients out of my neighborhood gym who lived there and was asked to stop. It was challenging to drive around with balance balls, bosses, and weights in my convertible, so I decided to see if we had space in our office building that I could turn into a training studio. I bought all my big equipment 2nd hand and through Refit. After 3 months, I was able to pay rent.

We cater to our client’s privacy and give personal attention. We are geared to a private environment on their schedule with no membership required. We focus on our client’s goals and needs through strength training, functional training, and corrective exercise through various means for our customers to achieve their fitness goals.
