Meet Stacey Harden of Northwest of Jacksonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Harden.

Hi Stacey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in healthcare over 15 years ago as a bedside nurse, where I quickly saw that many health issues weren’t just medical—they were tied to lifestyle, stress, and access. Fitness gradually improved became a part of my life, and for me, movement became therapy—it’s how I cope, reset, and stay well.

As I became a nurse practitioner, I wanted to bring those worlds together. That’s what led me to start Discovery Health Zone—creating a space where clinical care, fitness, and community work hand in hand. Today, I still practice as a provider while leading movement-based wellness programs that help people prevent disease and take control of their health.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all—it hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been plenty of challenges along the way. Balancing clinical work with building something from the ground up is/was hard, especially while trying to stay financially afloat and still show up for my family and community. Access to funding, space, and resources has been a constant struggle, and there were moments when growth felt slow or uncertain.

I’ve also had to push through burnout, self-doubt, and the reality that systems aren’t always designed for community-led or prevention-focused models like mine. But every challenge has forced me to get clearer about my purpose, more creative in my approach, and more resilient overall. Those struggles shaped Discovery Health Zone into what it is today—and they’ve made me a stronger provider and leader.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner who specializes in prevention, chronic disease management, and whole-person care. What I’m known for is blending healthcare with fitness and community engagement—I don’t separate movement from medicine. Movement is part of the treatment.

Through Discovery Health Zone, I create accessible programs that combine education, screenings, and fitness to help people take control of their health. What I’m most proud of is building something from the ground up that truly serves the community. What sets me apart is that I live what I teach—I use movement as therapy myself, and I meet people where they are.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes, I definitely lean on a mix of faith-based, cultural, and fitness resources. Sarah Jakes Roberts is a big one for me—her messages keep me grounded, encouraged, and remind me to give myself grace while still pushing forward. I also love faith-centered spaces that speak to real life and growth, not perfection.

On the fitness side, movement is my therapy, so I stay inspired through trainers and platforms that make strength and movement feel empowering and accessible, especially in urban and community-based fitness spaces. I also tap into mindset and habit resources that help me stay consistent and disciplined, not just motivated.

Overall, I try to stay connected to resources that feed my spirit, challenge my thinking, and keep my body moving—because all of that shows up in how I lead, serve, and care for others.
