Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Spangler
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey with Future Captain Sports in Pennsylvania, where my passion for soccer and working with children came together. I began by engaging with kids from my hometown, providing them with the skills and support they needed to thrive in the sport. I also took on the role of sourcing coaches for the professional team, the Philadelphia Union, which deepened my understanding of the game at all levels.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I saw an opportunity for growth and change. I decided to relocate to Florida, bringing Future Captain Sports to Jacksonville. This move allowed us to expand our mission of enhancing the soccer community, focusing on players, parents, coaches, and entire soccer clubs.
Today, we are thrilled to be working with local organizations like the Jacksonville Soccer Club and Ponte Vedra Soccer Club, and we’re excited to expand our reach to the Ormond Beach Soccer Club. Our goal is to make a positive impact on the soccer community here in Florida, fostering a love for the game and helping players develop their skills.
We are incredibly proud of what we’ve built and look forward to continuing to grow and support the soccer community in Jacksonville and beyond.

So, to anyone on a similar path, remember: if you love what you do, the journey—struggles and all—becomes a fulfilling adventure. Keep pushing forward!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up in South Media, Pennsylvania, my early years were filled with the typical sights and sounds of a small town. While many of my peers gravitated toward more traditional American sports like football or basketball, my journey took a different path. I was introduced to soccer at a young age, and it quickly became my passion, even in a community where the sport wasn’t widely played.
In a town where soccer fields were sparse and the local culture revolved around other sports, I often found myself as one of the few kids lacing up cleats instead of high tops. This unique situation presented its challenges but also allowed me to cultivate a strong sense of individuality and resilience. I learned to embrace my passion for soccer, even when it felt like I was swimming against the current.
My introduction to soccer came through a local community program. I remember the excitement of my first practice, the smell of fresh-cut grass, and the thrill of running up and down the field, kicking the ball with all my might. Despite the limited number of players in my area, the joy of the game captivated me from the start. I found myself drawn to the rhythm of soccer—the teamwork, the strategy, and the sheer exhilaration of scoring a goal.
As I continued to play, I sought out every opportunity to improve my skills. I practiced tirelessly in my backyard, often alone, envisioning myself on a larger stage. I watched professional games on television, studied the moves of my favorite players, and eagerly absorbed every piece of advice from coaches who shared my enthusiasm for the game.
The lack of a robust soccer culture in my town meant that I often had to travel to neighboring areas to find competitive teams and training. This dedication opened doors to new experiences, allowing me to meet players from different backgrounds and skill levels. Each game became a chance to learn and grow, and I cherished the friendships I formed along the way.
Through soccer, I developed attributes that have shaped who I am today—discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. I learned that passion can thrive even in the most unlikely places, and that sometimes the road less traveled can lead to the most rewarding experiences.
Although soccer wasn’t the dominant sport in South Media, my love for the game fueled my desire to promote it within my community. This passion ultimately inspired me to create Future Captain Sports, where I now have the opportunity to introduce soccer to kids in a similar position to where I once was. I want to ensure that they have access to the same joy and opportunities that I discovered, no matter how small the soccer community may seem.
In retrospect, growing up playing soccer in a town like South Media was a transformative experience that taught me valuable life lessons and ignited a lifelong passion for the beautiful game. I am grateful for every moment spent on the field, and I look forward to helping others discover the magic of soccer in their own lives.
