Hi Scott, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife, Ashley and I have been involved in the health and fitness industry both personally and professionally for the most of our lives, in fact we met in a gym 20 years ago! In order to make ends meet over the years we have engaged in jobs and careers not affiliated with the health and fitness industry, but always felt the passion to continue our personal goals as well as keep up on all the literature regarding supplementation and health.
We have always wanted to own our own business in the health industry where we could decide our future and fate. The idea of continuing on a corporate hamster wheel, where our most of our efforts benefitted an unseen conglomerate of middle and upper management email signatures became something we knew we could not continue. In January of this year, we finally made a break for it! We provided notice to our employers two weeks prior and were out the door on January 2nd, 2024.
Now don’t think we found ourselves in the kitchen on the morning of the January 2nd looking at each other saying “now what?” We had laid the groundwork 8 months prior and were well on our way to opening our own Nutrishop.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When opening any business or starting any personal journey of improvement it is important to realize that life will always place barriers and obstacles in your way. I guess that is life’s way of making the sure that you are serious about what you want to accomplish.
Some of the biggest struggles were all the outstretched hands with palms up! Every time you turn around some other vendor, agency, department, contractor or distributor needed another chunk of money, form filed, inspection completed, license, account number, or credit card number.
In order to save time and money we decide to complete the entire build out ourselves. Thankfully we had some wonderful friends and neighbors that were willing to lend a hand during this process with absolutely no expectation of payment.
Every barrier and obstacle were brushed aside, and those mountainous obstacles were reduced to speed bumps allowing us to open our doors on March 15th, 2024, to a beautiful and inviting location!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?

The avoidance of processed foods is unfortunately not that easy… based on a 2018 study of over 230,000 products, 71% were ultra processed and this number could be as high as 83%. With knowledge I envision the average person standing in the middle of the grocery store saying, “now what?!”
High quality nutritional supplementation will play an important role as we remove ourselves and our children from these processed food products which have created an epidemic of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
