Hi SCOTT, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After graduating Clemson University with a degree in Graphic Communications and Business Administration, I started my professional journey in Charlotte, NC where I purchased a franchise printing company at the age of 22 in 2009, right after the market crashed in 08. After several years of owning, I had the opportunity to sell and relocated briefly to Charleston, SC and then my wife and I moved our new family to Jacksonville, FL where she was originally from. In moving to Jacksonville, I had the opportunity to help start and build a new homebuilding company, Tidewater Homes. Since our inception in 2014, I have worked my way to being the president and operating partner of Tidewater Homes. Starting as a small home builder, we have morphed into a premier boutique local homebuilder creating semi custom and full custom homes across northeast Florida. Along side of Tidewater Homes, I have had the pleasure of being extremely active in NEFBA, the Northeast Florida Builder Association and am now serving our their executive committee.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey since starting Tidewater Homes has been anything but smooth. Building semi custom and full custom homes is a very emotional and taxing process and navigating the build for our homeowners presents its challenges in order for us to provide them with the most pleasurable build experience. Out of the normal day to day struggles, the biggest struggle was navigating the pandemic while trying to grow the company. Between health and economic fears to the never ending supply chain issues, volatile pricing and stressed trade, employees and customers, a new challenge seemed to present itself almost constantly since the beginning of Covid. Yet through the pandemic, I grew business, I turned challenges and issues into opportunities and overcame unknown futures to solidify our foothold in the local building community.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tidewater Homes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tidewater Homes is a premier boutique homebuilding company in Northeast Florida serving Duval, St Johns and Clay county. I have the honor of leading this company as President and oversee all day to day operations. Tidewater Homes is set apart for other builders by offering a catered experience to each and every homeowner from initial meetings, design and home construction. Tidewater has placed its flag as a trusted company and quality homebuilder.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We have had the opportunity to have solid positions on land deals which allowed us to solidify ourselves as a premier builder.
