Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramonica Brito.
Hi Ramonica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am originally from Opa-Locka, Fl. and arrived in Jax in October 2019. I am a licensed esthetician and owner of Diamond Esthetics, located south of Jacksonville. As a young child, I have always strived to create a life for myself that consisted of becoming an entrepreneur, obtaining financial freedom, and being able to turn my dreams into reality. I spent most of my childhood helping at my grandmother’s Dominican beauty salon in Miami and eventually was inspired to learn more about the growing industry.
After graduating from college, I looked into beauty school and found my passion in esthetics. Instead of taking out student loans, I managed to save enough money to put myself through school again. I spent countless days and nights creating a business plan to execute once I received my license because I was determined to become self-employed. A few months after graduating, Diamond Esthetics was officially open for business on May 14th, 2021, and the journey began.
As business owners, there are so many responsibilities that we have to bear and hats we have to wear. Many see pursuing entrepreneurship as risky, but it has been the best decision I have ever made. We offer specialized facials, full body waxing, and skincare treatments at Diamond Esthetics. As this billion-dollar industry progresses rapidly, my main focus is on expanding my business in all areas. On this journey, I have met many wonderful local business owners in the community who share similar goals and look forward to growing in Jax.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a solo entrepreneur, there have been a few obstacles that I have faced. When I decided that I wanted to become self-employed, it wasn’t easy trying to figure out where to start. I did not have any true guidance, and It took long nights of research to figure it out on my own. Opening a business at the young age of 23 came with some uncertainty. I was worried that I would not be taken as seriously as well-established business owners who have been at it for 10+ years or potential clients. I realized that fear was the one thing that kept a person from achieving their goals, and I couldn’t let that stop me. I took a leap of faith, successfully opened Diamond Esthetics, and am beyond proud of how far I’ve come.
As you know, we’re big fans of Diamond Esthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
As the owner of Diamond Esthetics and a licensed esthetician, I specialize in full-body waxing and facials. My main goal is to elevate self-care through glowing results while empowering women to feel comfortable in their skin.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
When Covid-19 hit, it was a huge wake-up call for me as it taught me the importance of having multiple streams of income. As former corporate company employees, they showed many how easily it was to replace us even after putting our lives on the line for little pay. During the vast amount of time spent indoors during the pandemic, I was planning and starting my journey to becoming a business owner.
