Meet Monica Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Anderson.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Everyone’s home has a signature smell; ours has always been cookies. Our family has been known for having the most delicious treats in Jacksonville, FL. Our parents, Veronica and Willis Anderson, worked hard in their careers and turned their passion for baking cookies into a vehicle that allowed all four siblings to attend college and create their passions. Our father spent 32 years serving the community as a local firefighter and quickly earned a second nickname, “The Cookie Man.” When you saw him, you knew cookies were close by. The relationships our parents built and the opportunities created for our family established a passion for entrepreneurship and service to the community in each of us. In 2022, our family wanted to find a way to continue our parent’s legacy through our first storefront. We have recently expanded our menu to include cookies, cupcakes, pies, and more – but the crowd favorite remains the classic oatmeal nut cookie. Arble Baking Company still uses the same recipe initially created over 40 years ago. We believe in providing our customers with the best: small-batch baking and using fresh ingredients. Our goal is simple – to feel like family and taste like home.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Opening a bakery with our siblings has been rewarding, but we, too, experience challenges. We are consistently reminded that no one day is perfect or predictable. Therefore patience and grace are required from each of us. As we prepare for our community grand opening in May, we are working towards offering the right mix of products to meet customer demand and preference while building scalable processes for our team. It is inspiring to see how each of our unique strengths can be leveraged to start and grow this business and provide the community with sweet treats that keep them coming back.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Arble Baking Company still uses the same recipe that was originally created more than 40 years ago. Alonza, Monica, Whitney, and Lamar Anderson wanted to honor their parents, create a legacy and bring more smiles to the community through their infamous baked goods. How do you define success?
While growing up, our parents always instilled in us that success is closely tied to service. In all that we do, we strive to serve our community and positively impact each person we encounter. Starting Arble Baking Company has allowed us to serve personally, as we bring smiles to customers’ faces through baked goods, and on a community level as we create jobs, support economic growth, and ideally inspire others to start a local business here in Jacksonville.
