Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam’s Jewelry.
Hi, Miriam’s Jewelry; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Miriam started her passion for coins and jewelry at a very young age. Her parents immigrated during the Holocaust and established roots in the Jacksonville area. Miriam worked at a grocery store during high school and would exchange all the nickels in her drawer with silver content for newer ones that didn’t; needless to say, she had the Savoy at a very early age. From then on, she would sell jewelry to local offices around town out of a trunk in the back of her car and host house parties. As her reputation and business grew, it was time to get an office; from the office, she evolved her flagship store in San Marco Square. Her passion and vision of high-end jewelry and a custom experience flourished as she gained the community’s and people’s trust nationwide. As time passed, she had a family, and her daughters have followed in her footsteps, each running a branch of Miriam’s in Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach. Hard work and determination to build a unique brand and customer experience were the motivations for success. Miriam’s is a local family-owned and operated fine jewelry store that provides unmatched customer service for buying, selling, designing, appraising, or repairing jewelry. Miriam’s is a full-service jeweler.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Miriam started with a drive to succeed and a will to make her way. She was the first of her siblings to be born in the United States after her parents immigrated from the Holocaust. She started with nothing but her charisma and pure determination to succeed. She would go to local pawn shops to lend her jewelry for the day to take around town and sell to doctors, dentists, friends, and neighbors. Her street smarts and passion for things of value and character paved the way.
We’ve been impressed with Miriam’s Jewelry, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Trust and integrity are the first words that come to mind. When you are dealing with jewelry, you are also dealing with people’s emotions, and they are trusting you to lead them in whatever direction they are headed, whether that be an engagement ring purchase or remaking or repairing something that holds sentimental family value. There are a couple of things to note about the uniqueness of our business. One, no two people are the same, nor are the transactions. Each scenario is unique to the person walking in the door. If you are coming in to sell an item, you can feel comfortable knowing you are getting a fair price. The same is true if you are coming to make a purchase. You will always be quoted a price that needs to be marked up so high. It’s one and done, but rather than that approach, Miriam is looking to establish a relationship that will continue to grow and be loyal to the experience. For over 50 years, the business model of treating people fairly and building lasting relationships for the next generations is what Miriam’s is all about.
