Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt & Dyan Stueben.
Hi Matt & Dyan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story began in Southern Utah, actually!
Dyan had been working in the medical field for 10 years (registrar, HUC, CNA) and was working on getting an RN license. But after beginning this training, it felt off – she wanted to help people prevent illnesses, not just treat them. Switching gears she got her 200 hr RYT (yoga certification) and was teaching yoga, Pilates, barre. She also decided to start a food truck! That is when she met Matt. They both had different lifestyles and meeting in the middle was super inspiring and motivating. Healthy is a broad definition and is unique to the one defining it! Therefore, the name “Healthie Habitz” was born out of this notion: that everyone’s “healthy” is going to be unique and no two are the same. What works for one person might be the opposite for someone else! So the two set out to inspire everyone to find their “health-ie”, which in turn will help them find their happy…or rather, their “happ-ie”!!
They ended up building a dream (food)truck, but it was just too expensive to maintain and they had to let it go. They both went on to traveling jobs to pay the bills – trying to recover from a bankruptcy, but the Healthie Habitz dream was still in the background. Knowing they wanted to breathe life back into it at some point, they kept coming back to Matt’s real gift and passion of massage. He had gone through the training right out of high school but never was able to pursue it as life steared him elsewhere. Dyan’s daughter had gotten her master esthetician license and loved it and was doing really well. This was inspirational and Matt and Dyan went back to school after landing in Jacksonville, FL.
After Matt got his massage license (round 2!), they both went to school to get their esthetician licenses. The real motivation for Matt was to upkeep Dyan’s lashes professionally as the cost was adding up, so why not market that skill!! Now living in Jax Beach, FL, the couple still works “day jobs” but have started to phase into their own business, Healthie Habitz, a home spa that is currently attached to their house! Looking at booth rentals, etc, it became more cost effective to add on to their residence so they could remain affordable to their clients while building up their clientele.
We already have rave reviews and believe we are on the right track this time! It has started as a facials/lashes/massage space that will surely evolve to include so much more in the realm of health! I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! Not only trying to decide what you want to do with your life, but needing to pay bills and live while doing so is quite overwhelming. Life is so expensive and when your passions are more activities, not so much income, it’s hard not to feel beaten down and just want to give up! It takes money to make money, so when you don’t have people to help you finance life, nor credit due to bankruptcy, etc. that presents an extra special challenge! But we both do our best and work extremely hard no matter what job we are doing. Work ethic perseveres and you make an impression no matter what you are doing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are home based, which was a necessity at first as booth rent is expensive! But after building a beautiful space onto our home, it has (hopefully) set a new standard. We want everyone who has the work from home dream to be able to pursue and bring their dreams into reality. Besides, you can’t beat the commute!
Our number one sought after service, hands down, is massage! Matt has a true gift and passion for what he does. He understands the body and has an amazing knack for finding that spot that is truly giving you pain and he knows how everything connects and functions and has had large success in helping our clients find relief from their pain. What was initially just travel massage has become more popular (and affordable!) when you come to us!
We also offer luxurious facials. We love to keep up with the latest and greatest while also understanding that diet & lifestyle are huge factors with the outcome of your skincare goals. Come get a relaxing facial by Matt or an invigorating and revitalizing facial with all the fun new gadgets from Dyan.
Understanding that when you look good, you feel better about yourself! Getting yourself some lashes, a lash lift, or even just a simple tint can go a long way with how you feel about your appearance. What we have learned so far is that everyone is going through something. We all have our challenges and it’s hard to take time out and spend money on yourself. But if you don’t take care of yourself…who will?! We can’t pour from an empty cup. We want to help people find little things to enhance their lives and show a little kindness, no judgement involved.
