Meet Marletta Thornton-Lee of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marletta Thornton-Lee.

Hi Marletta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I love fashion. I guess it kind of started out when I was in school as a young girl, people used to tell me I used to love to come to school and fix their clothes and do their nails…. I was working at this gas station. This guy came in selling his nail kit not knowing a few months later I would need it make a long story short I end up losing my job and it was either bills or materialistic such as Nailz so I remember I had this nail kit that I had just bought. I did my nails and then called My Cousin🥰😘 to come see them She wanted her nails did of course .. so she went to school the next day and everyone love the way I did her Nailz. She called me from school saying Cousin everyone love my Nailz. They want your information so I said give it to them .. so they started calling and I will tell them I am not a nail tech and I’m not good with acrylic just yet so go let a professional nail tech lay ur acrylic and I will only charge $15 for art then my clientele started growing I said why am I
sending my clients away when I can just perfect my craft and it could come to me for it all so I started doing full set with nails and toes for $25. I started loving it so I wanted to make that my profession so I started going to school and I was so good in school till I serviced my way through school. I made a promise to myself by the time I completed. aesthetician school I will have my first salon, and I did just that me furthering my career as a nail tech. I started finding out other things that I can do like craft shoes. make and design clothes almost 2 years ago I opened up another business Kattz kustomz llc my clothing store with my own clothing, brand ‘wear your confidence’.. through it all .. my good days have out – weighted my bad days … with dedication and determination … Mrs make it happen oh, not to mention, I do it all by myself ‼️

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It have not been easy, especially being an African-American nail tech with no help, no financial loans, no financial grants, just my hard work, dedication, determination, sacrifices and remaining level headed and business-minded. I tell myself everyday “I run my establishments like a business, if not I will be out of business”.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a nail technician/aesthetician/crafter/designer

What’s next?
I plan to be international with my craft my designs…
