Meet Lynn Adams of Westside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Adams.

Hi Lynn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began working for local CPA offices in Jacksonville in 1971 and did so until 1990. At that time I decided I could make more money working for myself so I gave notice and formed my own company. I developed and sold 2 accounting practices and now I have my final tax practice. I serve about 300 clients and do everything myself.
I handle about 2 dozen monthly bookkeeping accounts. I am a QuickBooks advisor and automate my client’s bookkeeping to make it seamless if they let me. This saves countless hours of drudgery bookkeeping and makes keeping up with their books easy and efficient. I also prepare about 200 personal tax returns and about 75 corporate tax returns. In addition to the bookkeeping and tax work and QuickBooks consulting I do a variety of other tasks that all accounting practices handle. I form corporations, including everything they need to be legal and set up properly.
I have been working with QuickBooks since it came joined the marketplace in 1990.
I take great pride in my work and the outcomes I achieve for my clients. My clients are more like pets and family than clients. I try to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. I use state of the art security in keeping all information safe and safeguard my home and office with ADT security. Clients usually never leave me unless they pass away or go out of business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When Covid hit it was really bad. No one was paying their bills and the demand for services plummeted.
I had to get a SBA loan to survive. Then after that in October of 2023 my husband had a stroke and I was his only caretaker until he passed away in December of 2024. For a year and a half I paid his bills and mine with only one income. Luckily I worked from home so I could take care of him and take him to his cancer appointments.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I should have been a therapist, not an accountant. People tell me their problems. I am a great listener and I am a problem solver. I offer them suggestions to solutions so they can resolve their issues.

Probably I should stand out more than the other accounting firms as I have not allowed my workload to get so large that I am able to customize and personalize each person’s needs in a way that they are happy. I give them the personal attention they need after discussing with them what their needs are.

I service small to medium sized service oriented businesses, non profits and trusts.

I have been preparing tax returns for over 35 years and have had only 2 audits during that time. I did not initiate either audit, the first one the client did something that sent a red flag up and the second one was initiated by a former accountant who prepared tax returns and didn’t know what he was doing. In both cases I attained a reasonable settlement for my clients from the IRS and they got off rather nicely.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I do not take on anything that would be considered high risk or anything that could potentially harm my client’s or my reputation or integrity. If it is not good for my business I simply don’t do it.
