Meet Kristen Smith of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Smith.

Hi Kristen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Originally hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, I made the move to Florida to further my education at Bethune-Cookman University. At BCU, I earned a degree in Sociology, participated in the 14 Karat Gold Dancers, and proudly served as the team captain during my senior year. Additionally, I was featured in the motion picture “Drumline.”with the Marching Wildcats. Understanding that Florida would be my home post-graduation, I decided to pursue my master’s degree in Jacksonville. During this period, I also embarked on a rewarding five-year journey as a cheerleader for the Jacksonville Jaguars, known as The Roar, where I held the position of captain and was featured on the cover of the swimsuit calendar in 2007.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything truly worth striving for is absolutely worth the effort! By keeping my goals at the forefront of my mind, I have successfully navigated various life events while maintaining my self-belief. Life has presented me with various challenges, alongside the journey of navigating adulthood in an ever-evolving world.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am presently the Vice President of the Matrix House program at Community Rehabilitation Center, Inc. This program operates within the Duval County jail, where we offer prevention, counseling, and case management services upon release. Believing that everyone merits a second chance, I have devoted 17 years to serving my community. My passion lies in being a change agent to tackle the challenges surrounding substance use disorders, mental health, family therapy, and community reintegration.

I am currently the owner of four businesses that offer counseling, event planning, retail swimwear, and, most recently, dance consulting.

I currently serve as dance instructor for 12 years at First Coast High School Marching Band for the superior rated a “Touch of Blue” dancers. I aim to share my passion for dance with young dancers, guiding them in shaping their life direction, instilling discipline, and achieving success in their pursuits.

I am most proud of my personal growth in the last two years. I have faced some life challenges recently in all areas of life. My response was not to give up, instead increase my faith in God and rebrand myself to align with the path God has set for me. And I’ve been successful ever since.

What makes you happy?
Being in the company of family and friends brings me joy. Over the past few years, my loved ones have been the pinnacle of my success and personal growth.Their unwavering support and encouragement have fueled my determination to overcome challenges and pursue my passions with vigor. Whether it’s through celebrating milestones, offering a listening ear during difficult times, or simply sharing in laughter and joy, their presence has been invaluable.

As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the importance of a strong support system. It is not just about the presence of loved ones but also about the quality of those relationships that nurture one’s spirit. They have inspired me to strive for excellence, to be resilient in the face of adversity, and to remain grounded in my values.
