Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Mueller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved the Post Office, and I have fond memories from childhood of going with my dad on Saturday mornings to look at the newest stamp designs and pick a few out. As I got older, the Post Office has consistently stayed one of my favorite places to run errands. After college, it was because I was sending snail mail to my friends and family thousands of miles away, knowing I was sending something that would make them smile. While planning my own wedding, it was extremely important to me that the stationery be high quality, sourced from small businesses where possible, and be beautiful and cohesive. I’ve always been creative (ask my mom, she swears it skips a generation in her family because my Grandma is a talented artist), and I have a background in engineering, so I used all my skills to manage my own project, and enjoyed veery second of it. That process prompted me to start my own stationery business, and I have loved using all my experience on the business side of things while getting to flex my creative muscles more regularly. These days, a stop at the Post Office means sending out a new kind of “something to make you smile”… it’s wedding invitations and save the dates that set the tone for my couples’ big days and bring joy to the mailboxes of their loved ones.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the hardest parts is putting yourself out there. There is never a perfect time to launch a business, and if you wait for everything to be perfect and ready, then it will never be ready!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Being a wedding stationer means taking on the responsibility of crafting the first impression guests will have of a wedding. It’s an honor to work with clients and set the tone for their big day, through intentional details and invitations that are just plain gorgeous to hang on your fridge. My design style trends toward colorful, playful invitation suites, and I love including things that are special to my couples, like their pets, nods to their hometown, or even sneaking in details about their first date or favorite foods. I also love an out of the box idea that lets me use my engineering background! A mechanical detail or moving part, custom materials or manufacturing processes, or anything else! I tell my couples that the sky is the limit, and I am open to all kinds of ideas. At the end of the day, I love love, and I want to create an invitation suite that is a keepsake my couples can have forever – something that excites them every time they pull out their wedding album or memory box on their anniversaries.
