Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Captain’s BBQ, located at Bing’s Landing in Palm Coast, Florida, was founded by Mike Goodman and Chris Herrera, two friends that share a passion for Fishing & BBQ. The restaurant has been serving the Palm Coast area since 2011 and operates on the Matanzas River at Bing’s Landing. Captain’s offers the only waterfront sunset dining experience in the area.
The BBQ at Captain’s ranges from: pulled pork, smoked ribs, beef brisket, andouille sausage, smoked turkey, and smoked chicken. The homemade sides include baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni n’ cheese, beet salad with crumbled goat cheese, collard greens, and macaroni salad. All meats and sides are offered A La Carte, as a Platter, or a Sandwich.
BBQ is often associated with simple dessert options like banana pudding and peach cobbler, but not at Captain’s. Captain’s pulls recipes from founder “Cheesecake Mike’s,” history in the wholesale Bakery business. The offerings include a variety of cheesecakes and cakes, chocolate chip cookies, pound cakes, and banana bread.
The service style is relaxed counter service. You order with the cashier, get your food and drinks from the counter, pick your sauce and utensils from the condiment table, find your seat, relax and enjoy the food and atmosphere. Captain’s offers an “Old School” service style, where the Manager still checks on the tables, to assure you are enjoying your visit, share the history of Captain’s as well as helping you decide on the dessert that will complete your experience.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obstacles are a part of business and life. When faced with the Economy, Covid, or Hurricanes, Captain’s stays true to its roots of our quality meals at a value and always giving back to the community that has always been supportive.
