Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Monserratte.
Hi Johanna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Founded by Johanna Monserratte, Happy Kiss Pole Dance was born out of a passion for movement and a desire to create a space where everyone feels welcome. Inspired by the liberating and sensual aspects of pole dance, our studio embodies the values of haven, play, and voice. These principles guide everything we do, from our classes to our community events.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has been a lot of bumps. The bumpiest being COVID-19. In April 2020, we moved locations and were unable to open our new location until months later. We were lucky to have so many clients who supported us and took Zoom classes from their homes.
Other than that, business has been difficult when it comes to navigating a world where people are so frequently plugged into their phones and not wanting to disconnect and move their bodies instead.

At Happy Kiss Pole, we believe in the transformative power of movement. What began as a dream in 2014, blossomed into a haven for self-expression, exploration, and empowerment. Nestled in the heart of Gainesville, FL our studio started in the spare bedroom of our founder’s home. From those humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a vibrant community dedicated to celebrating everyone who steps into our space through the art of pole dance.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was an incredibly shy kid, always hiding behind my parents legs when meeting new people. I was very interested in art and the world around me and this led me towards an interest in the fine art world. This all turned me into a quirky, funny, nerdy, and cautiously optimistic person.
