Meet Jessica Herrera of Jacksonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Herrera

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I guess I’ve always been a creative from the start. I’ve always loved being able to draw, paint, sing and write poems and songs as a kid. I started singing publicly as a little one in church, then eventually singing at events, fairs and pageants throughout my hometown in central Florida. I moved to Alabama for about thirteen years and that is when I started to dive more into the film and commercial side of things. I’ve learned that one small step can always lead to a leap of faith that could catapult you into the right place at the right time. This is how I’ve approached my artistic and creative journey. I continue to write songs and audition for my next role, all while raising my two children and hoping I can inspire them to be their true selves and express their own unique creativity and minds.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but I guess that’s the a part of the journey. Rejection is something one must get used to in this business but your mindset is what makes the difference. If one door closes, another one will surely open. I’ve always believed what’s meant to be, will be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter and actor.
I’m most proud of my two songs I’ve written and personally released, Ashes and Here’s to the Ones.
This past Christmas I’ve had two song placements in a BET Christmas movie, called So Fly Christmas.
I’m proud of any work that I do knowing that it always comes from a genuine place in me.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The biggest shift we are facing right now and beyond is AI. As much as I love technology myself, it is concerning to think AI taking the place of faces, minds and voices whether in song, film, etc. This is why I believe it’s so important for me to present my genuine authentic self and for others to do the same, because the human spirit itself cannot be replicated.
