Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalyn Owens.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Throughout my years of high school, I really enjoyed everything beauty related. Once I graduated, I went off to college in Gainesville. As time went on, I felt out of place. I started researching cosmetology schools and that’s where it all began.
After a year at a community college, I decided it wasn’t the right path and soon found myself on a tour at Paul Mitchell the School Jacksonville. I fell in love with the culture. I started cosmetology school a couple months short after and I started blooming.
I became part of the phase two program at school and even found myself attending hair shows, weekend events, shadowing at salons, and taking online classes to learn new techniques. After four years of working in a couple of salons within the area, I wanted more.
My dream of owning my own salon space came to life and Jade & Co. was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like the beauty industry is a tough place to figure out what you want to do, where you want to work, and the kind of clientele you want to attract. It took a lot of online seminars, role models, and peers to lead me in the right direction.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do everything hair from color, extensions, Brazilian blowouts, bridal updos, and more. I specialize in blonding and red hair services. I’m most proud of taking the leap into becoming an independent stylist at the age of 22.
I believe what sets me apart from others is the experience I give my clients from booking an appointment to after the service is complete.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is seeing the change in confidence from the time my client sits in my chair to the minute they’re leaving. There’s no better feeling than knowing I made someone feel confident about their appearance.
