Meet Jalicia Henderson of North side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalicia Henderson

Hi Jalicia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Fashion has been a passion of mine since childhood, from playing dress-up with my Barbie dolls to devouring issues of *Seventeen Magazine* and *Teen Vogue*. I went on to attend Alabama A&M University, where I studied Fashion Merchandising and minored in Graphic Design. Although I didn’t complete my final year, I never let go of my dream of becoming an entrepreneur and pursuing what I truly love. Over the years, I’ve carefully planned, researched, and eventually launched what is now known as Bleu LUX.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not, nothing great comes to us easily.

I faced challenges in staying consistent and focused on the needs of my business. Financial hardships were also a major concern, especially after opening my storefront. I was in the building for six months before it was ready to welcome customers. During that time, I balanced my 7-12 job as a claims adjuster while managing the store. After the first month of being open, I decided to hire staff to help run daily operations. However, I quickly realized I wasn’t providing clear direction for the day-to-day tasks that needed to be done.

Balancing personal expenses, business bills, and payroll left little room to invest in new inventory. One month, I even fell behind on rent, which was a major setback. I struggled with boosting sales and, unfortunately, after five months of being open, I lost my contract job just a week after Thanksgiving. While I managed to cover my personal and business expenses for a while, when it came time to renew the lease, I made the difficult decision to close the store.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an entrepreneur who also works as a property claims adjuster. My specialty lies in combining my love for fashion with my business skills to build a brand that embodies luxury, confidence, and versatility. What I’m most proud of is my perseverance—never giving up on my vision for Bleu LUX. What sets me apart is my ability to balance the demands of my career while growing a brand rooted in quality, empowerment, and the belief that luxury should be accessible to everyone.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel it’s important for me to have integrity, vision, and confidence.
