Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgie Chanthavane.
Hi Georgie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from sweet home, Alabama, where I started my journey with Sephora in 2014. During my career there, I underwent intensive training to become one of Sephora’s Certified Makeup Artists. In 2016, I traveled to Mississippi to take on the leadership role of Sephora’s Senior Education Consultant, where I specialized in expanding product knowledge for my team & clients. I fell in love with my career & decided to pursue my education at Blushington Academy, the nationally-known premier platform for beauty experts & Celebrity Makeup Artists. I’m one of Blushington’s 1000+ Certified Pro Artists and the only Certified Pro Artist serving the Amelia Island, Florida region! I met two amazing mentors/ professional makeup artists from Los Angeles: Sloan Knowles-Casper and Brittany Scott, who helped me find my niche in the wedding industry.
After moving to the area, I connected with Kirstie Archetti, the makeup artist who founded Royal Beauty. Together, we worked on serving brides on Amelia Island before she moved. I loved working alongside her for weddings & because of her I was able to call this place home!
Fast forward to today, you’ll find me on set as Brittany Powell’s official makeup artist. She’s a well-known, talented photographer in Amelia Island who captures all the special moments in your life, from engagements to maternity sessions! Being a part of her team means I get to create a luxurious experience for our clients’ photoshoots, as we create the perfect makeup look that photographs beautifully for their HD photos.
Weddings are kind of my jam, and I love everything bridal. I love it so much that I’m even stationed out of Beauty Within A Bridal Boutique, where I work with Amelia Island’s well-known wedding planner and owner of Within Weddings, Cheyenne Nichols!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, I wish it had been! But I guess the most fun stories aren’t as smooth. Looking back, I struggled with believing in all my capacities and talents. When you’re explaining to a stranger that you’re a makeup artist, you get mixed reviews, and you start to doubt yourself when someone thinks your job involves “playing with makeup.” When I first started, I was a broke college kid who needed a part-time job to pay for another box of ramen. Because of my part-time job at Sephora, I learned that I thrived the most in a setting that involved beauty. My talents were there, but I needed to expand my skill set and learn the business, so I devoted a lot of training time & education to perfect my craft. By the time I reached the wedding industry, COVID had hit & I was forced to reevaluate my position as a makeup artist without the in-person connection (which is nearly impossible for artists in the industry!) During COVID, I offered virtual makeup classes to help clients fall in love with their makeup at home & learn new pro artist techniques. I’ve found the best way to overcome my obstacles is to learn & invest in myself because learning promotes growth. I’ve learned more about myself and my business during those times of doubt, & now I can live out my mission statement through every client encounter. Now that I’m a little older, I know that what I do matters & I’m creating a luxurious, beautiful experience for clients. I’m in love with having moments photographed & now, my work gets to be captured by some of the best wedding photographers in the area!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bridal, photoshoots, & airbrush makeup. I’m proud to be a traveling makeup artist who serves clients along the Gulf Coast! Because of my job, I’ve been all over Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, & Florida- so far! I have a beautiful mixture of clients from photoshoots & weddings & offer the beautiful airbrush machine to provide a more luxurious experience. I’ve learned to work on set as Brittany Powell’s makeup artist behind her incredible photoshoots. I’ve learned much more about weddings & what brides need because of my time at Beauty Within. Because of this background, I can take a more intentional approach to creating a makeup look & know exactly what will photograph beautifully. Lighting, editing, dress style, client’s personality, and skin type play an important role in which products to reach for & why a certain client will love them.
There are so many directions for makeup products, styles, texture differences, etc.- this can be overwhelming for a new bride/ client because of this one-on-one. What makes my work different is that I offer a consultation meeting/call with every guest before they book. My goal is to help the client envision their look & narrow down their style choice. I wanted clients to feel connected to their artist even before sitting them down in my chair. That needed to be the foundation of True Bridal Glow- the sense of being true in conversation & falling in love with a makeup look that makes you glow from within! For clients who want more depth & knowledge, I offer makeup classes for anyone who wants to develop their skills in applying their makeup & learning about their skin.
