Hi Darrin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has never followed a straight line, but it has always been guided by a commitment to building, creating, and making an impact.
I’m a Jacksonville, Florida native and a graduate of Florida A&M University, where I earned a degree in Construction Engineering. Early in my career, I worked across transportation, infrastructure, and technology sectors, gaining experience leading complex projects, building teams, and solving problems at scale. Those experiences taught me how to think strategically, execute with discipline, and navigate challenges, skills that would later become invaluable as an entrepreneur.
While advancing professionally, I always had a passion for creating something of my own. That vision ultimately led me to launch DuBlasé Whiskey. What began as an idea among family evolved into a premium, award-winning whiskey brand built around a belief that life’s greatest achievements deserve to be celebrated, and that success carries a responsibility to create opportunities for others.

Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition such as Jacksonville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, FAMU’s Distinguished Alumni Award, and Small Business Leader of the Year, but what I’m most proud of is building organizations that connect business success with community impact.
When I look back, the common thread throughout my journey has been purpose. Whether in corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, or philanthropy, I’ve always believed that success is most meaningful when it creates value beyond yourself. That’s the principle that continues to guide me today and will continue to shape what we build next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, there have been plenty of challenges along the way.
Building a spirit’s brand is a highly competitive business with significant barriers to entry. You’re not only creating a great product, but you also have to navigate manufacturing, distribution, regulations, marketing restrictions, inventory management, and consumer awareness, all while competing against brands with much larger budgets and decades of market presence.
We’ve faced setbacks that every growing business encounters. There have been accounts that didn’t work out, opportunities that didn’t materialize, and moments where we had to make difficult decisions, adjust strategy, and keep moving forward. The spirits industry teaches patience because growth often happens over years, not months.
What I’ve learned is that obstacles are often opportunities in disguise. Every setback has forced us to become more disciplined, more strategic, and more resilient. The challenges haven’t been the most important part of the story; it’s how we’ve responded to them that has shaped who we are today.
Looking back, I wouldn’t trade those experiences. They taught me that entrepreneurship isn’t about avoiding adversity, it’s about having the conviction to keep moving forward when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s that DuBlasé represents more than whiskey. It represents legacy, celebration, and impact. We believe the best brands don’t simply create products, they create experiences, inspire connections, and leave a positive mark on the communities they serve. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to every day, and it’s what will continue to define our growth moving forward.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Throughout my career, the biggest opportunities I’ve experienced have come from stepping into uncertainty with preparation, conviction, and a willingness to learn. To me, risk isn’t about making bold moves for the sake of making bold moves, it’s about evaluating the potential upside, understanding the downside, and deciding whether the opportunity is worth pursuing.
Starting DuBlasé Whiskey was certainly a major risk. Entering the spirits industry meant investing significant time, capital, and energy into a highly competitive market where success is far from guaranteed. There were no assurances that retailers would carry the product, that consumers would embrace the brand, or that we would achieve the growth we envisioned.
My approach to risk has evolved over time. Early in my career, I viewed risk as something to avoid. Today, I view it as something to manage. I’ve learned that some of the greatest risks come from staying comfortable for too long or waiting for perfect conditions that never arrive.
When I evaluate a decision, I often ask myself: “Will I regret not trying?” If the opportunity aligns with my values, has meaningful potential, and the downside is something I can recover from, I’m usually willing to take the chance.
Looking back, every meaningful accomplishment in my life has required stepping into the unknown. The goal isn’t to eliminate risk. The goal is to be thoughtful enough to manage it and courageous enough to act when the opportunity presents itself.
