Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Brooks.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Danielle Brooks loves drinking tea, especially with honey. One day she thought how awesome it would be to have her own hive to harvest from; so she started researching bees and how to keep them. After checking out every book in the library on the subject, she decided to jump in with both feet.
Struck with inspiration, Danielle began looking for the perfect business partner — and found it in a vintage truck that she now sells honey from at events and pop-ups all over St. Augustine. What started with one beehive quickly turned into a full scale business. The mission of Honey Truck is to educate others about honey bees, native pollinators, and ways we can help conserve their habitats.
Danielle now maintains multiple hives all over the city of St. Augustine, as well as partnering with other small scale beekeepers across the state.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has certainly not been an easy road owning the honey truck. Danielle takes great pride in having started, and run the business for nearly nine years, while also being a part-time stay-at-home mom. The interruptions that life often throws at you, have a way of growing you in the best way possible. There is no owner’s manual for running your own honey business. Danielle faced many challenges from learning how to market to her target audience, to reconfiguring manufacturing equipment to allow for a French square jar instead of a round jar.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Honey Truck Company was born from a passion for pure, natural honey and a desire to connect people with the magic of bees. Founded by a working mother, the company sources its honey from its own hives and small-scale, sustainable beekeepers across the state of Florida ensuring each jar is filled with the unique flavors of its origin. Honey Truck’s commitment to quality and transparency has earned them a loyal following, and their honey has been featured in numerous publications and culinary events.
What makes you happy?
What makes Danielle happy is the positive feedback she get from her clients on a daily basis. Whether they say her honey has helped with their allergies, or they were able to bring new life to an old recipe using her honey, it brings joy to know Honey Truck honey has become a staple in their pantry.
