Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Angelo Jordan.

D’Angelo Jordan

Hi, D’Angelo. I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey ignited as a graduate assistant, driven by an unwavering passion for sports and fitness, all while pursuing my master’s degree. In this role, I thrived as an intramurals and recreation assistant director, laying the foundation for what would evolve into a diverse and dynamic career.

My initial venture into coaching was at the collegiate level, where I embraced the role of strength and conditioning coach for 26 sports. It was here that I refined my skills in developing comprehensive training programs, placing equal importance on physical prowess and the values of discipline and dedication. I approached each sport with a customized strategy, recognizing the unique demands and intricacies of each discipline. Transitioning across various industries, I garnered invaluable experience and insights, enriching my understanding of different fields and disciplines. This diverse background equipped me with knowledge that would later prove instrumental in my coaching career.

Opportunity knocked when I was offered positions coaching high school sports; strength & conditioning coordinator, football, basketball, baseball, and track & field. In each role, I seized the chance to impact young athletes’ lives meaningfully. As a strength and conditioning coach for football, I rebuilt the program from the ground up, instilling a culture of effort and emphasizing the importance of nutritional guidance. Drawing inspiration from Kenny “The Jett” Smith, I understood that proper fitness was not just about playing the game but preparing oneself to excel.

As a running backs coach, I took on the responsibility of developing athletes’ physical abilities, nurturing their character, and instilling a championship mentality. I recognized sports’ pivotal role in shaping future leaders and endeavored to create an environment conducive to success.

As a strength and speed trainer for baseball, I provided tailored programs designed to enhance performance and prevent injuries. My focus on sport-specific training, dynamic stretching, plyometrics, and nutrition underscored my commitment to optimizing athletes’ potential.

In addition to my coaching roles, I also served as an assistant discipline coach and associate head coach for basketball, integrating new fitness regimens and prioritizing student-athletes health and wellness. Moreover, my experience as a professional personal trainer allowed me to extend my impact beyond competitive sports, empowering individuals from all walks of life to adopt healthier lifestyles and pursue their fitness goals.

Throughout my journey from graduate assistant to multifaceted coach and personal trainer, my unwavering mission has been to enlighten, energize, and empower individuals to embrace active, fulfilling lives. Each role has contributed to my evolution as a coach and mentor, molding me into the dedicated professional I am today.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While my journey has been rewarding, it certainly hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the most significant obstacles I faced was the discontinuance of the Strength & Conditioning Department at the university where I coached. This sudden change was a devastating blow, turning what was once a promising career in a field I loved into a period of uncertainty and reflection.

Navigating this unexpected turn of events was an uphill battle. It forced me to reevaluate my path and reassess my goals. Despite the setback, I found clarity and comfort in knowing I was where I was called to be. Taking a step back from the coaching profession, I took some time to decompress and reflect on my next steps.

During this period of introspection, I grappled with the unknown. It was a challenging time, filled with doubts and questions about the future. However, it was also a period of growth and self-discovery. I realized leadership is more than taking charge and learning to follow. As a son, father, former athlete, and servant leader, I learned valuable lessons about humility, perseverance, and resilience.

Ultimately, it was through embracing these challenges and uncertainties that I found my way back to coaching. An unexpected offer presented itself, a foot before my eyes, and I knew I couldn’t ignore the call. This experience taught me the importance of adaptability, resilience, and trust in the journey, even when the road ahead seems uncertain.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?

Who else deserves credit for your story?
I am immensely grateful for the support and guidance from various individuals who have played pivotal roles in my journey. First and foremost, I owe a debt of gratitude to my parents, who laid the foundation for my values and work ethic. Their unwavering commitment to raising me with love, discipline, and a solid moral compass has shaped who I am today. They exemplified the principles outlined in Proverbs 22:6 (“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”), instilling in me the importance of integrity, perseverance, and faith.

My wife has been a constant source of encouragement and support throughout our journey together. Her unwavering belief in me and our shared dreams, especially during challenging times, serves as a testament to our love and partnership. Together, we navigate the ups and downs of life, always standing by each other’s side. Above all, I recognize my ultimate mentor and guide: the Lord Jesus Christ. His teachings, grace, and divine guidance have been the cornerstone of my faith and success. I attribute all my achievements and blessings to His grace and providence, knowing that He has paved the way for me in every aspect of my life.

Additionally, I’ve been fortunate to have supporters and teammates who have played significant roles in my journey. Their wisdom, encouragement, and belief in my potential have propelled me forward during times of doubt and uncertainty and shaped my perspective and approach to challenges. Whether it’s a colleague who offered valuable advice that led to a breakthrough, a friend who cheered me on when I needed it the most, or a teammate who pushed me to be my best, I am grateful for each person who has contributed to my growth and success. I am deeply indebted to my parents, wife, and the Lord Jesus Christ for their unwavering love, support, and guidance. Additionally, I am thankful for the supporters and teammates who have enriched my journey and helped me become who I am today.
