Meet Chandy Madsen of Hair by Chandy Marie – Happy Haunts Pumpkin Patch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandy Madsen.

Hi Chandy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Chandy and I am an entrepreneur and business owner. I am a hairstylist, full time mommy, wife and love to come up with new side hustles. Ive been a hairstylist for 10+ years now. I love everything about it! I specialize in color and extensions. Being in the hair industry quickly taught me that being my own boss and having flexibility in my schedule was the way for me. It allows me to be very involved with my family and my children. They are my whole world! 6 years ago my family moved from California to Florida. Halloween was always my favorite holiday and I felt like there was nothing quite like what I was looking for as far as pumpkin patches go. So I came up with the idea of opening a patch that was themed after the movie Nightmare Before Christmas. In 2021 Happy Haunts pumpkin patch came to life. My husband and I made the props, the entry ways, and painted it all. My entire family has helped bring this vision to life. My grandparents work one of my patches while I was working at the other, and my family builds everything. It has been a very exciting journey to be apart of family traditions every year. This year we will be located at 895 Palm valley road. We have movie nights, foam machines, photo booths and so much more planned. Happy Haunts is proud to support local foundations and host fundraisers to make a difference in our community. So many wonderful people have helped my businesses succeed, and I am so incredibly grateful for that. Giving back to our community is a small way that I can say thank you. Please stop by and say hello! Lastly, I became a travel advisor a couple of years ago. Traveling is my passion and what pushes me to hustle. I want to show my kids the world and make the most special unforgettable memories with them. So I decided to help people plan their own vacations, and I love every step of it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business is never a smooth road haha. Moving to Florida was really challenging because I had to leave my clientele of 5 years and start over in the hair industry. For the first year of living in Florida , I went to California every 5 weeks and took all of my clients. I did this throughout covid until I was 32 weeks pregnant with my first son and couldnt fly anymore. Once my son was 8 months old I decided to start building a clientele in Florida. Now fast forward 5 years and I couldnt be more grateful for this career and life.
The most challenging business is definitely the pumpkin patch. That has been a learning process the entire way. Every year something new happens. There are so many factors into a pumpkin patch in florida. Weather is the biggest challenge. From sunburnt pumpkins to full hurricanes causing rot, it has not always been easy. The process of unloading a semi truck of pumpkins is already hard work. But all of the rough times are worth it in the end. We really pour everything that we have into this business and I coud not do it without my husband and my families help and support. I did not know how much work went into a pumpkin patch when I came up with this idea haha!

As you know, we’re big fans of Hair by Chandy Marie – Happy Haunts Pumpkin Patch. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’ve been a hairstylist for over 10 years, and I truly love helping people feel beautiful and confident in their own skin. I specialize in color and hair extensions, particularly beaded wefts, and I love creating transformations for every hair type and texture. Whether it’s adding length and volume, creating the perfect blonde, or bringing bold, vivid colors to life, I enjoy helping my clients achieve their dream hair. Before moving to Florida, I worked in California, where nearly half of my clientele wore vibrant fashion colors. That experience allowed me to express my creativity every day, and it’s still one of my favorite services to provide. Above all, I’m most proud of the quality of my work and the relationships I’ve built with my clients. Seeing someone leave my chair feeling confident and excited about their hair is what continues to inspire me after all these years.

Our pumpkin patch has become another passionate business. What makes it unique is that it’s inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas. Rather than simply displaying pumpkins, we wanted to create an immersive experience that feels like stepping into the movie itself. From our hand-built and hand-painted props to our animatronics and themed displays, every detail is designed to make guests feel like they’ve entered a little world of Halloween Town. Another thing that sets us apart is our incredible variety of pumpkins. Growing up in California, I loved visiting farms that offered every shape, size, and color imaginable—blue, pink, white, orange, and everything in between. I wanted to bring that same experience to our community, so we offer more than 15 different varieties for families to enjoy. Most importantly, we’re incredibly grateful for the support our community has shown us. Giving back is one small way we can say thank you. Through our pumpkin patch, we’re proud to partner with local foundations and host fundraisers that benefit organizations making a difference in our area. We always welcome opportunities to collaborate with local nonprofits and community groups because supporting the community that has supported us means so much to us.
