Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryson Hendricks.
Bryson , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My book, Don’t Miss! tells my story of growing up in a small town where at the age of six I had an accident with a machine which removed four fingers from my hand. I tell of the love and support my family gave me. This support came in a number of different ways. My mother would hold a nail I was to hit with my hammer even though she knew I might hit her. One of my grandmothers told me she would not hold that nail and when I protested, she said that I should not miss the nail. My other grandmother I remember was important in my recovery because she walked me down the path to regaining the friends I thought I had lost. I tell of the everyday victories I had relearning how to do basic tasks. I did not want to lose anything more. Growing up, I wanted to build things and I loved music. I am now retired from my home building career and I play guitar with my wife in a local band. I send out copies of my book to orphanages so kids that might need to hear my don’t miss message, get a chance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I felt out of place as I did not know anyone like me and I had to relearn how to do tasks without the help of my lost fingers.

The Hendricks Band plays many local festivals where we give out matchbox cars as those cars are important in the book.
