Meet Alex Blankenship of High Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Blankenship.

Hi Alex, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in 2020, I was riddled with anxiety as a newly pregnant wife hoping to advance my career in water quality. By early 2021, my husband and I had developed a “gameplan” to develop a career that put motherhood first. I’m forever grateful to him for that. He suggested cosmetology, a path his mother started 34 years ago. I knew I wasn’t meant for hair or nails but healthy skin and facials have always fascinated me. I opened my business by my son’s first birthday in July. I’ve grown steadily and organically thanks to amazing loyal clients, my family’s support and using only the best products our industry has to offer. I’m so pleased to celebrate 5 years in business this July!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has run uphill for the most part, but certainly not smooth. The esthetics industry is one of the first to rise and fall with the economy, and tends not to keep steady business as easily as hair or nails. I’m blessed for my business to be nestled inside a hair and nail salon, where most of my clientele seems to come from!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As owner of a business specializing in advanced skincare treatments and results but only through superior product offerings and formulations as well as hands-on treatments, I am SO extremely picky about what I use and the science behind it. I’m so proud to say my hands are my most useful and coveted tool. I very rarely use machines in my treatments. I believe Americans undervalue the power of simple hands-on manipulation and are instead drawn to quick fixes and glitzy machines. I give clients what they can’t find at every esthetics business – TRUE healing time through gentle facial massage. I believe that’s what sets me apart and keeps my most loyal clients returning.

It takes time and experience to develop expertise in custom skincare. Knowing exactly what the client’s skin needs is something I’m very proud to say I confidently do at every appointment.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The city of High Springs has small-town charm similar to Fernandina Beach or perhaps Green Cove Springs. Folks flock here year-round to visit nearby springs like Ginnie, Gilchrist Blue or Ichetucknee. My business name Artesian Esthetics is an ode to them as well as my former career path as a water quality scientist working to preserve and protect Florida’s freshwater resources.

Pricing:

  • Artesian Facial: $90
  • Flowing Spring Facial: $105
  • Dermaplane Facial: $105
