Life & Work with Mobarick Abdullah III

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mobarick Abdullah III.

Hi Mobarick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been creating with color for as long as I can remember. When I was a child in Pittsburgh I remember wanting to put color where there was gray. One day I put crayons on my mother‘s wall. I was surprised when I didn’t get in trouble. I knew right then I could create something different. I’ve always been drawn to color. I moved to Jacksonville in 2004, and briefly stepped away from art. A few years later my girlfriend asked me to make her a painting. She left that white canvas sitting in the living room. It stared at me for days. She knew what she was doing because I picked up those paints again and never put them down. Now it’s about experimentation. I love meeting new artists, playing with new styles and trying to be the best artist I can be for my clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an artist is a struggle. Period. It can be hard to put brush to canvas with so much hurt in the world. I try to create a distraction from that world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I mostly work in acrylics and spray paint. I’ve been told that people can tell my color schemes when they see them. I like to bridge the gap between realism and abstract I believe that I’m most proud of inspiring other people to pick up Paint brushes and cans!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as seeing my clients’ excitement on their faces and moving someone to want to create.
