Life & Work with Laurel Jones of Palm Coast, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurel Jones.

Hi Laurel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Laurel Jones — Founder and Principal Consultant of Just Right Business Services (JRBS), a firm established to help businesses and healthcare organizations with 10 or more employees move from operational overwhelm to organizational excellence.

After two decades in corporate America, I’ve seen firsthand how even the best operations and healthcare teams can struggle under the weight of inefficiency. I’ve also seen the benefits of coaching, meaningful process improvement initiatives and organized project management on operations and IT management. My career has spanned healthcare operations, claims and configuration management, membership administration, public health, and transportation, giving me a 360° view of how processes, people, and culture intersect to drive—or derail—performance.

At Just Right Business Services, we specialize in helping:
🏥 Hospitals, medical groups, and health plans improve efficiency across claims, billing, utilization, and member services.
⚙️ Business and Healthcare leaders streamline workflows, eliminate rework, and strengthen revenue cycle performance.
💬 Executives and teams rebuild culture and communication to reduce burnout and turnover.

Our approach blends Six Sigma, project management, and real-world operational insight—not theory. We partner with Daytona State College for large, complex assignments, keeping informed of trends while also preparing the next generation with real world experience.

We meet organizations where they are, using their existing processes, systems, and team knowledge to design scalable solutions that stick or help them prepare for their next chapter.

We are also an Everything DiSC partner, providing personal assessments the share personal insight as well as insight on how to better communicate with their team members.

As a partner with Aspire, we are able to provide Debt Navigator, a service that can be offered as a benefit to employees that cost the employer nothing. Also through Aspire, we offer a Wellness Program that provides tax advantages for both the employer and the employees.

I don’t come with a one size fits all solution. I find Just the Right Solution for our clients and for their businesses.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anyone has a smooth road just starting. We are gaining momentum and in a good place considering the firm has been around for a year.

Some of the challenges encountered are letting the world know that we exist, that we are credible, and trustworthy.

Being the new kid on the block requires connecting to community groups like the Palm Coast and Flagler Chamber of Commerce, attending networking events from different professional groups, i.e. Alignable, Palm Coast Professional Women, and others, and connecting with people one-to-one. Everybody knows somebody. The person you’re meeting with may not need your services, but they may know someone who does.

Another challenge is finding the right lane to spend limited resources. Time and money are two of the most restrictive resources any of us have. We all have 24 hours in a day, and seven days a week. I’ve become very selective in where I spend my time. I’m also mindful of what and when I choose to invest in for the business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Prior to Just Right Business Services, I worked with national health plans, state Medicaid, public health, and transportation. I learned working across-industries that the same principles for operational excellence and for project management apply. PMBOK and Six Sigma methodologies work. One of my greatest achievements was leading the testing and implementation of Epic’s Tapestry Claims, modules, which included claims, configuration, and authorization management. These modules integrated with Epic’s robust clinical system, providing one platform for one common set of data, which was used by each module for its unique purpose. I did that for the Mid-Atlantic States, which includes DC, Maryland, and Virginia, which meant managing three distinct jurisdictions with distinct regulatory requirements. Once the Mid-Atlantic was done, my test plan was used as the template for the other states implementing the technology.

Another moment that I’m proud of was being assigned to a proposal management project that was previously attempted twice before being assigned to me. By the time I was assigned the project, the window of opportunity was closing. It needed to be completed within 90-days. I was able to collaborate with the managers, prior team support, and the vendor to successfully complete the project, communicating with all the stakeholders and leadership along the way.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Starting a new business venture is a risk. Starting a new business venture during an unstable economy is an even greater risk. However, rarely will I take a blind leap, but I will take a calculated one. I consider myself a balanced risk taker. I don’t shy away from opportunities that stretch my comfort zone — in fact, founding and scaling Just Right Business Services required me to embrace uncertainty — but I approach risk with strategy and structure.

I use data, stakeholder input, and scenario planning to assess potential outcomes, then pilot ideas to validate assumptions before scaling. That allows me to innovate responsibly while managing and protecting resources.

For me, risk isn’t something to fear — it’s something to manage. When aligned with purpose, planning, and process, risk becomes a growth engine
