Today we’d like to introduce you to Ladii Girl.
Hi Ladii , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a singer/songwriter professionally since 2012. I also have a small business called “Hugz and Kissez” where I hand make soaps, lotions, and candles. I have also ran for public office twice. I wear many hats but my heart lies in music. I come from very humble beginnings. Growing up in public housing has helped to shape my perspective and love for humanity. Life experience has shaped my writing style. I reflect on the real rawness of situations that affect the everyday person. I am heavily influenced by the sounds of the 60′ and 70’s, although I enjoyed the eccentric vibes of the 80’s, the 90’s will always be my go to for my type of sound. So on any given days you’ll catch me singing the Delfonics, all the way up to Xscape. The artists of today that I truly admire their sound are artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, and October London. I’m a indigenous woman, an enrolled tribal member of the Hassanamisco Nipmuc Band. We are fresh water people, so I feel naturally I am drawn to peace and tranquil settings. I believe in paying it forward. I strive to include and assist other artists into meaningful ventures I embark upon. I have hosted a city wide Christmas party for the past 8 years to give back. Utilizing my own funds and some times royalties to cover the expenses. I take joy in putting smiles on the faces of others. I am a mom to a young man that has sickle cell disease SS and work to show him that no matter what life throws your way, you can reach all of your goals dreams. That is the very message that I want all of those who follow me to know. I believe that wholeheartedly. Stay diligent and focused, it will happen for you. Never be afraid to be persistent and relentless.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s has not been a smooth road. I had a late start at music due to becoming a mother at a young age, in ’97 I lost my daughter, and in ’98 my son was born with Sickle Cell Disease. My life was dedicated to him and his well being, which meant putting my dreams on hold. Nothing that I have acquired this far, has not come without sacrifice. Like ramen noodle nights, and borrowing a few napkins from fast food restaurants, from being that broke.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer/songwriter. I’m know for writing relatable, soulful songs. My proudest moment was when I received my first plaque for my song entitled “She Can’t” which was my rendition to the Jagged Edge hit “He Can’t”. I landed in the top 150 globally spun records on radio, coming in at 103. I feel my work ethic, and determination is what sets me apart.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m sort of a shopaholic. In my free time I browse a site called Depop and occasionally purchase something high fashion. I read blogs from time to time but I’m an avid reader of Billboard.
